My God!! <br>What?? <br>That was the funniest and oddest bus I've ever been on! Firstly, It took forever to actually book at ticket! The trains were completely booked out so we dragged our backpacks to the bus station. At the station it took the usual amount of repeating and hand gesturing to get a ticket!<br> <br>"Taiyuan?" "TAIyuan" "TaiYuan"<br><br>Even if you know the name of your destination there's no way in the world you'll pronounce it right. Eventually, once a ...

Taiyuan, Shanxi, China jenny77... Lantern, was filmed (it's a really good movie I highly recommend it). The Qiao family was a rich merchant family that had the money to build a huge compound for themselves. A large portion of the wealth in China was in that family. Their compound had almost 300 rooms in it and they were filled with lavish gifts and decorations. The difference between the rich and the poor during this time must have been incredible. These families ...
Taiyuan, Shanxi, China jstellarWe get dropped off at the Qingxu service station at 2:30am. There's a 24hr convenient store, we find a row of plastic seats and tries to make it until the sun comes up. We have been on the road nonstop for 18 hours, have to wait 7 more hours before we can find a bed.
Taiyuan, Shanxi, China whereskyle... of how tall it is. The third stop is from the bottom. By this time fog had lifted enough to see across. To get to the viewing spot one must walk through a park running along the river. The park was built to show materials used in the construction. A waterfall is made from stones used to show how they were cut and so forth. On the way back to the city we asked Lucy about a good place to eat and she ...
Taiyuan, Shanxi, China masovy_kasparek... days. We purchased a heart-shaped lock from one of the vendors and had Seamus's name inscribed onto the back of it. Then we treked the rest of the way up to the west peak and affixed it to a chain that had a stunning view of the mountains and wished for our little buddy to rest in peace. The post is in memory of Seamus. Love ya little guy. You were the best doggy ever!!! (Typos to be fixed later / Sorry about the sideways panda pics)
Xian, Shanxi, China kasey_kid... it was last week. Then the overnight train to Pingyao, it was a bit spooky looking watching the big flames of the oil refinaries light up the sky, out the window at 4am. So I arrived here just after 5am. On the way into town you see more signs of poverty then Beijing, people looking through rubish, a dog tied to a big rock that it could just move etc. This town is really cool though, the old walls are still there and the buildings are ...
Pingyau, China conorsheedy... it was three to a room, but the rooms were a bit sketch, it is safe to say that the sheets had not been washed that month, and the bathroom was a sink, a super ghetto, but actually a sitter toilet, and a spicket in the wall as a shower, i think i felt dirtier after i showered. so the next day we went to a few of the temples in Wu Tai San, which has around 30 or so temples, with actual monks still living there, it was awesome to see the worship areas, and the monks ...
