... Out of the mountains and about 30 minutes from Nagano. Maleny/Montville style town. Warm here, about 24 degrees - so we were a bit hot as we dressed for the mountains. While touristy, it is quiet and unhurried. It is chestnut season for this area so speciality shops with everything "chestnut" and cafes, beautiful craft stores, sake brewery (no thanks after last nights headache), galleries and museums. Woke early and caught a taxi to Ueno station. JR Shinkansen to Nagano, then electric train on the Nagano dentetsuline to Yudanaka. Walked up to our accomodation - Shimaya. Mr Yumoto is very helpful. He drove us to the snow monkeys, then we walked 1.6 km through the forest to see the monkeys. They were everywhere, little babies, sitting in the hot spring, picking nits from each other and ...

... have a stupid 2.5 hour layover followed by another tedious 2.5 hour flight. I know I’m being impatient. I know I should just be thankful that I’m finally on my way to Japan in the first place, but right now I’m a grump and I’m tired of traveling. Perhaps I should just bite the  bullet and buy this stupid expensive wifi pass. Maybe I should take another Unisom and try to pass out for the next four hours. Oooh, I know! I’ll buy the stupid wifi pass ...
