... S. Embassy might be close enough to sign documents.

So out into the sun and down to the pier. The pier here is quite famous. It is 500 meters long and has had a checkered history. It survived two World Wars and also survived misguided intentions to just pull it all down. Now it is being revived again with a marina scheduled to open next to it in a couple of years. For now, locals and tourists ...
Sopot, Baltic Coast, Poland carpefelineI am not a hot chocolate drinker. Maybe one or two Swiss Miss packets in a 2 or 3 year period is about enough for me and then I need enough marshmallows to totally take over the chocolate. So a couple of years ago (already!), traveling in Croatia, one of the other tourists (Thank you Heather!), got a cup of hot chocolate at a roadside restaurant. I was intrigued to see that ...
Sopot, Baltic Coast, Poland carpefeline... from the table behind us. We wave and wave. Finally we stand up and wave and then the waiter comes. We repeat the process to pay our bill. Why do I think that if we stood up and just started to walk away that we would be very visible?

Sitting in the plane next to the window. The flight attendant approaches with the snack and drink cart. She asks the two ladies ...
Sopot, Baltic Coast, Poland carpefeline... gave us information that we had not had yesterday and showed us some new areas that we had missed. It was a good little tour.

She had told us a good place to eat baked potatoes too. We headed for that. On the way though we passed the Uphagen House which has furniture from the period when it was a viable house. It was open so we ducked into it and got a free ride with our tourist ...
Gdańsk, Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland carpefeline... Dlugi Targ. The houses along this street are gorgeously decorated. Just beautiful. However since we started rather late and had to go after the train tickets, the museums were closing. We’ll have to hit them another day. Made a dodge over to St. Mary’s and climbed the tower which pretty much wiped us out.

It was a very good day in a lovely city.
Gdańsk, Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland carpefeline... to learn a few words in Polish but find it very difficult. It is Slavic with different sounds than in English and Romantic languages.

The Swede wants to go to a club so we hear about Parliament. Reduced cover if you arrive by 10. I presume it would be dead. It was packed. Cover is normally $3 but $2 early. Beer is $2. The club is 70% women and almost all under 30. Late night, it is mostly men. With only 4 hours of sleep, I crash by 12:30.
Gdansk, Baltic Coast, Poland will.traveller... voices, and sounds. We were treated to
a short musical performance and it was very impressive. They played "Ave Maria" and something from Phantom of the Opera, and another one I didn't recognize. Quite beautiful. I visited the little store they had there and bought a hand-made angel that made me think of my mom and all her collection of angels. Then we traveled to the "Green Gate", which isn't even green. It was one of ...
Gdansk, Baltic Coast, Poland hagatha... am not crazy about and have never liked is sauerkraut. Ugh. It's everywhere over here and I have eaten some of it but I try to avoid it when possible. I'm not a big fan of cabbage to begin with but when it's made into sauerkraut it's even less likable. For instance you won't find me eating golabki (that's cabbage rolls to Canadians) here in Poland because of the cabbage factor. I told you a bit about Gdansk's history in the 1980s and the downfall of communism but a part of Gdansk was ...
Gdansk, Baltic Coast, Poland eileenj... with how people perceive Jews. There aren't many Jewish people left in Poland, and those who are here tend to stay in more isolated communities in the larger cities, so Polish people on the whole don't have daily contact with Jewish culture. This was an experience that I hope won't be repeated. Sunday and Monday I spent exploring the Old Town and Shipyard areas of Gdansk. It's a very pretty city located on the Baltic Sea. It's the largest port in ...
Gdansk, Poland laura1... a second stop. We got off and my heart was pounding and I said do we have everything and all of a sudden I knew I didn't have everything, so I raced back up the steps to grab my little blue bag that I'd stuffed into a shelf and hopped back off. Luckily I made it off again, it was kind of a close call, but I think our carriage was just behind the conductor so he was watching as I raced back onboard. Phew!! Still though it was pretty ...
