Check "climb the falls" off our bucket list

... far, climaxing at a crystal clear underground lake. Upon our return to the main entrance we were treated to some really fine tasting fruit juice made on the island.

From the caves we went to the Dunn’s River Falls and that too was spectacular. The falls themselves are absolutely beautiful and to look at them they appear to be quite fast and strong. Which is intimidating when you’re challenge is to climb them, not on your own but in a chain holding hands with ...

No!! We don't want a taxi....

The ship docks at Ochos Rios in Jamaica so we decided to just do a little shopping onshore .Jamaica is a fairly poor country so competition is very strong for any sort of business that they can get. After you leave the ship it's a kilometre walk down to a few shopping centres. About 15 different people asked if we wanted a taxi and then once in the stores the store ...

... Falls. Somehow It took us hours to get there. We all stopped for hair cuts for some reason and then went shopping for new toilet. Dunn's river is a water fall that you hike up from a beach. We got there pretty late so we didn't have anytime to hang out at the beach. We climbed the river once and then went into Ochi where the rest of the nurses from the clinic were staying. We hung out had jelly coconut and finnaly got ...

Port of Call for the big cruise ship

Ocho is an interesting city, divided by a straight line, on one side (from the center to the port), relatively safe area day and night, upscale boutique, restaurants and on the other side, the chaos and not so safe area. There are a few hundreds meters of beachfront.

Jamaica

We arrived at Ocho Rios, Jamaica on Tuesday after two days at sea. The last two days at sea had been filled with good times and it had been smooth sailing. We looked out from our balcony and thought how beautiful the waters and port were. The weather was sunny with some clouds and the day would be pleasantly warm. We had planned a shore excursion of going on a zip-line through the ...

... met a Jamaican girl named Diandra (D for short), who was eight and was also in grade 3. In Jamaica, children start school when they are three and go for three years of kindergarden (K1, K2, and K3) before starting first grade. Their schools are organized into houses like in Harry Potter; D is in the Blue house. She and Max compared notes about school (she especially likes spelling and reading) and about the movies they've seen, some of which were the same although D has seen more ...

Italian Charm with a Caribbean vibe.

... is a great resort for Hobbie Cats. Plenty of wind most of the time. If you go, ask for Johnny, a short little stalky guy that is a blast to hang out with. Ask them to take you for a ride down to the beach. It's off property, about a mile from the resort, a local hangout, very safe, and worth the trip. There is a small river there with a deep pool. It is rumored that if you go into the pool it will take 10 years off your life. I'm ...

... tropical fresh fruits and of course some """"cough medicine""""" name rum punch - in a plastic water carrier.....definitely suspect... it was found to be 105% proof and definitely no naked flames were allowed anywhere near. All this followed a very enjoyable soaking climbing the Dunnes River Falls. This was an experience, the water was warm but extremelhy fast flowing and Gerry was unfortunate enough to fall in only 5 yards to the end of the falls. He wasnt hurt and ...

I Came. I Saw. I LEFT!

This was a horrible nasty little place I hope to never see again. When you walk down the street, it is filthy and taxi drivers nag at you and then throw insults when you refuse to take a taxi. I Came. I Saw. I LEFT! One almost saving feature of this hideous place was swimming in the water, but even that turned south when I felt what I believe to be a sewer pipe under my feet.
