      ... the relative cool of this hill station. This meant moving upwards of 1000 people with all of their equipment and office records up to this beautifully located town. For many years this was the hub of the mighty British Empire, with jurisdiction over places as far apart as Burma and Australia. As a result the town that still exists, is a curious melange of India with an English village thrown in.

      ... of their way. This made getting to the Hindu temple interesting as lots of others believed the same. Went round the temple clockwise to visit the different shines to different reincarnations of the three gods. Learnt a lot and enjoyed, which surprised me. Back in the hotel now after walking back from the town. Cloud coming and starting to feel cold. Drinking a mug of Darjeeling tea to warm up, very pleasant.       ... despite some very pushy tourists who kept people waiting for ages while they took their perfect photo. The Lodge was beautifully appointed in its original form, with wonderful timber carved paneling, stairways and furnishings.

      We finished our tour with a stroll around the immaculately kept lawns and gardens. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and were somewhat gob smacked at the disservice given to the Lodge in the negative narration by the Lonely Planet ...
