... the village of Perros-Guirec which proved to be a beautiful place. The area is famous for pink granite and the size, colour and structure of the boulders in and around the coast is simply stunning. We returned the following day for a 2.5 hour boat trip to some of the 7 islands off the coast which have an amazing variety and density of bird life. ... on one side next to what had been the great hall, and what had been residences against two other walls were long gone. In gaps where stonework had crumbled were metal walkways, and as always the views from the top down into the ruin and away across the countryside were lovely.

... only establishment open, so crepes were on the menu again. Service was a bit slow, and we found it strange that when my crepe arrived, Jonathan was told his selection wasn't available, so what would he like instead. Consequently, I was nearly finished before his arrived. It took well over an hour to just have a crepe for lunch! ... on the banks of the River Rance estuary near Dinard. We thought we'd look out for a cafe along the way to get a baguette - we had decided against a picnic as the car would get hot and we had no way of keeping food cool, saving our chicken and salad for dinner. But in every town we passed through patisseries were shut for lunch and we didn't see any cafés with sandwiches. And so we arrived unfed at Dinard and found the Montmarin gardens.
