Christmas in Danang

We got to Danang on the 23rd Decemmber, seriously wrecked after the bus trip from Laos. Luckily we met a very nice taxi driver who brought us into town and to a nice hotel. In fact, after the tiny bungalow in Don Det, this place was luxury! Things like hot water, electrical sockets and even a mirror were very welcome after over a week without them. Add in air-con, satellitle tv and clean sheets and we were starting to feel very pampered! That's probably why we ended up staying for a week. Jus...

... net over her face.

Once we were out of the rickshaws, we had a tour of the Cham Museum. It is full of statues that were found in an archaeological dig. It was too hard to hear our guide so I did not get much out of that tour. After that we headed to the base of Marble Mountain to the marble factory & store. I picked up a couple of marble bowls but decided the beautiful marble table and chair set that I was admiring might make by suitcase overweight ...

Hoi An

... That evening we all split up for dinner and i ended up going for a indian curry with the majority of people. Later went out to a bar and played some pool and drank some more beers, we tried to find another bar we had heard was good but were told it was shut so just returned to the bar we had started in. Only this time indulged ina couple of tequila's, we all got invited to a beach party but turned it down as we had a reasonably early start.

... pronounced hway) - you remember I told you I was taking the sleeper bus - well, that was an interesting experience, not actually as bad as I was expecting. There are rows of bunks instead of seats, but they're quite narrow, and as the bus throws you from side to side, it's quite likely that'll you'll get thrown out of bed. In my case, I would have landed on the people sleeping on the floor between the bunks as the bus was clearly overbooked.
<br ...

... than checking tickets and we only had to produce them about twice, after visiting more than our share of places! one such attraction was a traditional vietnames music / song / dance recital. it was lame enough apart from one piece of "vietnamese opera" performed by a single lady with a large feather duster. sounds interesting? she chilled me to the bone. writhing about the ground with said duster, shrieking and screaming at imaginary adversaries and scowling at the audience with a ...

A culture, with my stomach as the dish

... messing up his IV tube.
I slept there that night woke up to Mr. Hai's snoring a few times during the night, but slept well. The doc. came in about 8am to tell me I had a bacterial infection and that she would prepare my meds. I just hung out watching rally racing and tennis until I got my meds and finally was discharged from the hospital. It was crazy, but what a story eh? ahaha.
[Thanks for reading my story]
-Robin Fawcett

Wardrobe expansion

1st September
Arrived off sleeper bus and found a hotel. Hoi An is a very pretty town with really old wooden French, Japanese and Chinese style buildings and cobbled streets full of tailors. In the afternoon we had a look round where I ordered a blouse, a skirt and a dress made to fit. They would be ready the following morning for fitting, having clothes hand made is really exciting I should do it more in the UK! In the evening we had an amazing Vietnamese set meal from ...

Danang - home of the chams, not chavs

... to follow them around and see if you can wear them down. The museum of cham sculpture is very interesting and helped us to learn more about the gods the Chams worshipped, my favourite is the Holy Bird Garuda, he has the body of a man and the head of a bird and he is usually shown killing a snake called Naga. The champa civilisation drew characteristics from India and the Hindu religion and was prevalent around Danang from the 4th to 14th centuries. They worshipped Shiva ...
