... our walk to the Lighthouse. Nice 9 mile walk to the trig point and light house. Found geocache at the end and celebrated with a birthday beer! Christine and Malcolm picked us up and we went wine tasting at sunset. Then took taxi into Fira for a meal walking back around ...

Perfect weather, the sun on our skin and the wind in our hair - we're making the most of the quad bike today; cruising around Santorini.

We took a drive to check out the Black beaches ; Perissa and Perivolas. Perissa is quieter with more couples and families, the beach has very fine black pebbles - we hired the sunbeds with the straw umbrella, basked in the sun and enjoyed a refreshing drink. Then we ...

... and a map marked with the lesser known beaches Ana Maria told us about, we were off to explore the island. Our first stop was a beach not far from Fira, called Kamari. A beautiful stretch of black sand ( really, it was more pebbles than sand) stretched between some intense rock formations. Along the beach, a strand of cobblestone road offered tavernas and shops the chance to woo beach goers with delicious food and trinkets. 6 Euros rented two ...

      Stepping up in Santorini!

... it was serviced daily with more clean towels than we own at home!! It even had a television, something we haven't seen since May! And if that wasn't enough, Lekteris made wine.....really, really, really nice white wine and he put a glass jug of it in our fridge every day......on the house!! Mark and I, being naturally suspicious after months on the road were waiting for a catch, but no...he is a genuine nice guy.....no catch!

      Fira and Oia

A travel blog entry by onighjoy on Jul 19, 2013

      ... it.

The hype of Santorini suddenly all made sense. Staying in a hotel in the main part of Oia is definitely very nice even with the hundreds of steps if money isn't an issue. This part of Oia is a lot livelier but also a lot noisier for us, so we were glad when we got back to our little piece of paradise which was actually a little difficult to find as the east side of Oia is really dark at night.

      A very nice day.

      Ollie out.
