... herd the goats off the street. It would seem that little has changed since Lucy’s time. …Everything is so very different here. People speak and write Amharic an ancient language, the food is unique and spicy – eaten off a big pancake that also serves as your plate (very eco friendly), the traditional dress is white and made out of cotton that is grown and woven here - making the busy market place look a bit like a large wedding procession, the religion is ancient ...
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia manic-trip...

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia asalvaire... br>but was thoroughly impressed by the set up they had. The orphanage
currently houses 24 kids but aim to take in 10 children in the next
couple months. The orphanage contains many income generating
projects from farming (corn, maze, potatoes) to cattle and chickens,
as well as renting out guest and conference rooms. They plan to
eventually be fully self sustaining and also would like to eventually
start giving back to the community by making and ...
... a really fun band from the U.S., and wondered, "Who are these people - some of which are paying upwards of $500 a night for a room in Addis?" Since Derege seemed to know everyone in the bar (including the sheikh's "right-hand man" and brother-in-law), we had a few too many drinks piling up, as they all generously bought us a round. This was like another world - definitely worlds away from our entire trip thus far in Ethiopia . . . Lydia headed for the airport ...
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia donna321... foiled in Addis - of course, the Hilton ATM was out of money, we had an incredible amount of trouble booking our flights, and then learned that we needed a minimum of 8 days for the trip we'd wanted to take to the South (we only had 6 to spare aft** doing the North), since Ethiopian Airlines had just stopped running its flights to one of the key south**n cities (despite what we'd read on-line and in LP, and thus reaffirming Lesson #2). So aft** finally buying ...
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia asalvaire... be in Ethiopia. I do not regret it for a second. At first, we wanted to know if it is possible to enter Ethiopia without a visa. We knew we should ask for one. I came to a local worker in the terminal, explaining to him that we have a connection within 5 hours, and we want to get out of the terminal to see the city. "Huh?" He said, glancing at me with wondering eyes. He just couldn't understand what we want to do. You have many hours to spend in ...
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia gsella... interest concerning the U.S. elections and one point only - Barack Obama. Ethiopia loves Barack Obama. Charismatic and eloquent son of a Kenyan father, a black man who has risen meteorically in American politics and now stands well positioned to assume the highest office in a country whose wealth and freedom hold an almost mythical pull for most Ethiopians, he has captured hearts and imaginations in this developing East African nation ...
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia christen.smithThe rain fell steadily on a grey, dreary morning as I said goodbye to my friend. Though her leaving had been a long time in coming, it was still somehow no less of a shock to realize that this would be my last time seeing her in Ethiopia. I had been with her throughout her journey to this point, had seen factor after factor adding up to this inevitable outcome. I, along with her many other friends here, had talked her through the various stages of this difficult decision ...
