Selling Like Hot Cake

We got up early today to take advantage of the complementary breakfast. No muffins or croissants here - we are talking about real food. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes. The most interesting item was the arrowroot (http:// en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/ Arrowroot). Maybe everyone in the world has these every Tuesday, but I had never heard of them. They were really good and tasted like a cross between a freedom fry and an eggplant. The eggs were like rubber, but I was surprised to find Tabasco sauce, a...

Day 9

This morning, depart westward around the Aberdares Mountains to Lake Nakuru National Park for lunch at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. Lake Nakuru is one of a series of shallow alkaline lakes that formed on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, with Menengai Crater, an extinct volcano rising 514 meters (1,700 ft.) in the background. The lake is home to millions of Flamingos and Pelicans who turn the lake pink with their numbers. Nakuru is also becoming renowned for it's successful protection of Rhino's...

14 MAY: MOUNT KENYA/LAKE NAKURU 0800hrs: After breakfast departure to the Great Rift Valley and the Lake Nakuru National Park via Nyahururu and Nakuru. Visit to the Equator and Thomson Falls enroute and continue. Arrive at LION HILLS LODGE for check-in followed by lunch. Afternoon, game drive in the park and around the alkaline lake. ... hear all kinds of animals out there. I slept pretty well except when my tent buddy woke up at 4 am to pee. Let’s say he didn’t walk very far. Also when I was brushing my teeth over by the wood line, I was shining my flashlight around the place to see if I could see any eyes in the brush, and I did! There were a small pair about 10 m away from me. Sunrise came early and we ate cereal, toast and bananas.

This day we ...

Often going unseen, we were very fortunate to see the black rhino.

We bought a few supplies in Nakuru and headed back to the camp ground. It is cool at night but not as cool as expected. We still don't need our thermals or hats but certainly the fleece jackets are needed.

This campground was next to a bar. ... this was going to be how we would travel from 3rd August. We pitched our tent had lunch and then drove into Nakuru about half an hour away. At Nakuru we drove down to the lakeside national Park and before we even entered we saw baboons along the roadway. In the park on the banks of the lake were millions of pink flamingos along with pelicans. On the edges of the lake were zebras, gazelles, rhinos (black and white but ...

... baboons sitting with their red penises sticking out, we reached the muddy shore of the blue and pink Lake Nakuru. Yes, blue and PINK. Hundreds of pink flamingos had formed a pink carpet over the lake, which covered a significant percentage of this placid body of water. I blankly stared at the pink carpet under the early morning sun, for minutes on end. Drove into the savanna where we saw jumpy antelopes, grazing rhinos, feasting hyenas and giraffes running in ...
