He seems much taller and stockier than when I last saw him. We caught a taxi to the hotel. They upgraded me to a very flash room directly opposite James. He went off to work. I ordered pasta on room service ( a bit Chinese style, but to be expected ). Then showered and got into bed. Wonderful to be on the Internet ...

Feeling extremely clever after our exclusive private lounge breakfast, we thought we'd take advantage of flying with Singapore Airlines, by using their very cheap hop on hop off bus around the major sights of the city. Half way through getting our food the local Chinese dragon dance group came through the restaurant, down to the kitchen to dance at the chefs and back out again.... I didn't pay much attention, I was too busy planning my route to the microwave to heat up my meatballs. I ordered 15 (standard), whilst Nikki ordered the kids portion of 5... although oh so generous me gave her a few, so it ended ...

... parades, parties, and the resulting chaos, traffic, and confusion was endless. Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Chinese New Year (CNY) is a pretty big thing in Penang as there is a large Chinese community on the island, with celebratory fireworks and firecrackers going off late into the night and making it sound a bit like a war-zone. Shops and businesses close for at least five days, sometimes for the entire 14++ days of the celebratory period, sometimes even longer. Thus we had ...
