Up early and catch the bus into the city, then trek up to Edinburgh castle, Very impressive which is just as well as it was a bloody hard slog up the hill to get there!! We do a half hour tour with a castle guide which give you the history overview and showed you where things were, We then spent a couple of hours wandering and exploring the castle, visiting the crown jewels and different parts of the castle, We make our way back ...

Sadly it is thought that all of the birds have now gone from this site and I haven't seen a Black Grouse for years. Julie has never seen one at all.

So at 07:00 and before the hotel had even started to serve breakfast we were in the car and heading west up the Dee valley to a Lek site that we were ...

In 1651 Cromwell was trying to get him mitts on the Scottish Crown Jewels which at the time were holed up in Dunnottar Castle just north of Kinneff where we are now.

Somehow, and nobody is sure exactly how, the vicar of Kinneff and his wife managed to smuggle the jewels out of the beseiged castle and stashed them under the floor of the parish church. For the next nine years they proceeded to dig them up in the dead of night every three months ...
