379 kms - 12,000 steps

Today we moved our residence from Bergen to Flåm, one of the most touristic places in Norway, but rather than taking the shortest route we took a longer more scenic route over the mountains, which was a big detour, but certainly worth it.
We left Bergen early in the morning as the sun was shining into the bedroom from very early on. Sunset is around 11 pm in Bergen and sunrise at ...

... summer, the 15-25 degree temperatures found in Scandinavia are positively refreshing!

Spaniards are invariably funny while traveling outside of their country - Spain is notorious for being the worst country in all of Europe for traveling when you don't know the local language, where seemingly nobody speaks English in the entire country, nor any other language beyond Spanish. Supermarkets like Rimi, Meny, Bunnpris, Rema 1000 and Kiwi can offer good prices and make everything much more economical. It was an engineering feat in it's day because of the steep mountain gradients that had ...

Flam

Awake early, leisurely breakfast as train trip at 11.00. It's another fantastic 20km journey up 866metres. Views of valleys, waterfalls and lakes with nymphs dancing at Kjosfossen. There's only a station at the top so it's straight back down on the same train with all those wonderful views. Back to the ship for a quick cuppa then off on one of the marked walks. We make good time and decide to fit in a trek up to the Brekkefossen waterfall. It's ...

... and the meal cost 495 NOK each. As everyone knows Trevor only eats enough to keep a sparrow alive - so having to pay $90 AUD + taxes he wasn't a happy camper!

The following day we had a late check-out then based ourselves in the hotel lounge until it was time to board the Flamsbana Train for Myrdal at 4pm. Luckily we had forward facing seats on the train so could enjoy the picture ...
