Liebe Menschen,
Bis dahin: Keep on rockin´

After a few days in Ljubljana, we took a bus to the beautiful, rustic town of Bled. Apart from being dropped off at the wrong bus station, walking for more than an hour with all of our gear in the pouring rain looking for our hostel, and not having anyone at the hostel for the first 6 hours we were there, Bled was incredible. Our second day in Bled, the sun appeared and ...

Well woke up to torrential rain and it looked just like the lake district cold and damp we did try and manage to go out for a little while as we needed to get some laundry sorted and stuff but it was just to wet. We managed to get to use the internet and have a drink of really fit hot chocolate it was just chocolate melted down with lots and lots of whipped cream on the top we did not do much this day really as the weather was a wash out I managed to get ...
Bled, Slovenia traceybelleI was sorry to leave Opatija because the hotel was so lush but move on we had to I was also excited that we where going to another country as we had spent so much time in Croatia. Felt bad that we had not even tried the food or gone out properly but I am still recovering from my fall and needed to rest as much as possible. So we got the bus to Rijeka and by some stroke of luck I asked a woman on the bus where the train ...
Bled, Slovenia traceybelle... friends in the same situation though, in the hope that if there was trouble we would present a united front!
There was also another older couple from New Zealand we had got chatting to that said they would help us out if we got in trouble so that was comforting.
While we sat with our new found friends in our cabin and waited for the inevitable arrival of the conductor, we got chatting. They were living in the UK, both from Brisbane. They knew each other in Brissy but it ...
... the farm! One, two, no, 3-4-5! puppies! all jumping and saying hello, two months old, and pulling down the pants of the about 8-yr-old son of the family, so much laughter all at once. This is very much a working farm, with plenty of cows and horses and apple trees and truck noise and you name it. This was the best meal so far, it was a type of meat loaf, with mounds of good lumpy mashed potatoes with what we thought was brown gravy but what turned out to be hot ...
Bled, Slovenia commuterThe last few days have gone by so quickly! Lake Bled in Slovenia was spectacular and definitely lived up to all that we had heard. There was a church called the Church of the Assumption on a little island right in the middle of the lake, and a castle perched high up in the hills. A lot of people had taken gondola rides or were rowing boats themselves across the lake when we arrived right at sunset ...
Bled, Slovenia armajor7... and this continued until the peasants revolted. Don't blame them. We walked home through the suburbs noting how Swiss the buildings looked and how they have very steep roofs for the snow but also little verandas taking advantage of whatever weather conditions prevail. Slovenia, or the small part of it that we saw, was one of the most peaceful, friendly and green parts of Europe we have seen.
Bled, Slovenia dannyandkaren... lived this way for a really long time, and when it comes to the daily routines, it hasn't still much changed. Work is work, things need to get done, and so they do it. I get the sense that the Slovenians are a hardworking people. Very friendly as well. One way I judge the friendliness of a town or a country is whether or not people acknowledge or greet you when you pass them on the street, and here in Bled, whether it is English or Slovene or some other language I ...
