    ... a lot of history and the buildings are old. Its interesting to note that in spite of the city having been severely bombed by the allies during the war, the three cathedrals, which sport tall spires, were never hit or damaged. Must be a divine force at work.

    ... checking out all the fancy stuff like showers, toilets and beds we walked down the harbor with our host Matthias, for a few pre dinner drinks. The pub we went to was on an old light ship. The ship is essentially a moving lighthouse that was used in the past to mark the ever shifting sandbanks for ships at sea.

Pretty basic with a toilet block only in the motorhome area and main facilities and showers etc. up the road and across the dyke but at 13euro a night, it's just what we needed for this quick journey breaker.     ... has now been rebuilt, but St Nikolai has been left as it was after the fire. It is quite a creepy place. Just a few walls remain that are covered in scorch marks and holes. Pretty incredible. The crypt of the church is now a museum which had footage and photos of Hamburg during and after Operation Gomorrah. The entire city was just ash, so crazy.
