Getting up at 3:00 am is not nice, but the highway to the airport was empty. Checking in with Air Berlin was a new experience, but not quite positively. All information that we had keyed in for the online check in was irrelevant, we had to give them the complete information again. Arriving in Düsseldorf was no problem, up in the air and back down again. We had a 2.5 hour layover so we were able to fill our stomachs with a decent breakfast. Air Berlin had another check ...

After some online reconnaissance we ventured into the city today for a look around. We drove to a local train station and had no trouble buying day passes from a vending machine for €6 each. ... br> But we are not alone: a Spanish mother and daughter are also stuck behind the gate with one printed ticket for 2 passengers. We are pro's now, and with their one ticket I gallantly assist these ladies in expediting all four of us + 2 suitcases + 2 backpacks through the gate.

In Osnabruck we need to switch trains again and have time to eat some bread while waiting. Again I appreciate the absolute stillness of the leaves and the warm pleasant air of summer.

... anything else here. Tomorrow I'm going to do my usual walking tour and try to sample some beer, but that's about it. I'm still not ready for another museum. I did a wander about Hamburg this evening and I have to say it's a beautiful place. Unlike Berlin it doesn't seem to have been completely flattened and rebuilt, so it still has that industrial-age aesthetic about the place.

The one thing I'm struggling with in Germany is remembering to stay ...
