All about Perhentian Kecil

... was back from the beach at 5.30pm, I wanted a shower, despite it being a bit dingy in the bathroom. I was about to turn the tap on when I happened to glance upwards, and saw a huge lizard about a foot and a half long peering back at me from the top corner of the bathroom. I got a massive shock! I had to get one of the blokes from reception to remove the intrusive reptile rapscallion. Most days after this Freddy returned, often having recruiting a ...

Please sir can we have some more!!

... opted to go to the main beach which is called Long Beach. On arriving on the beach, we needed to find somewhere to stay. We got there about 2 ish so it was sweltering heat and very uncomfortable to walk in with all your worldly possessions on your back. We weren't concerned because it was low season and we thought there would be loads of livable rooms available....we were wrong. All the half decent places were full and the other places were really low in standard. We had ...

Beware of Sharks on Land

... would have more dining options and it could be a good place to see where we would like to stay on other parts of the island. The lady at the travel agency recommended Maya Chalet for 55 MYR a night - so we paid and got ready for the fast boat ride over to the small island, which would just so happen to be a pretty unforgettable ride.

There were around 12 people, including Michael and myself, who bought tickets for the fast boat ride. And they weren't kidding by the term ...

Up with the larks to see some sharks.

... beaches and coral reefs. Although the island didn’t quite have the beauty of Redang (although it was still stunning) it certainly had more charm with quaint beach front huts and small cafes spilling on to the beaches serving up delicious sea food barbeques.

We spent the 4 very nice days in a similar fashion to that of Redang – lounging & snorkelling.

Fortunately for us ...

Steamed Fish?!?!

So I'm writing a long overdue (and short) entry here, last one was back in July when I left Indonesia....

I arrived back into Malaysia and met my Sister, Jen who had come out for a short holiday. We spent a couple of days site seeing in Kuala Lumpur and just having a catch up, which was kinda weird talking about familiar things back home after being away for such a long time. Anyway after more endless drivel we headed off ...

Perhantian Island

... the beach had disappeared under water but was again accessible from noon on.

This island is very accessible from Kuala Besut but is accessed only by speed boat (There are no slow boats) Also taxi from Kota Bharu to Kuala Besut seems to be the way to go. The owner at Zeck's Traveller's Inn is always ready to help you out. Seems honest enough but he gets his share of commissions!!!!

Scuba Licenses!!!

... take us from Kuala Besut to Kuala Lumpur, where Hanan and I would grab another bus from KL to Singapore. While the overnight bus to KL was somewhat painless, it still wasn’t comfortable and we didn’t exactly get a great night’s sleep. Of course the bus dumped us off at the “other” bus station in KL, for local buses only, and in order to catch a bus to Singapore we had to grab a taxi to take us to the other station. The taxis in KL are such a rip off ...

Paying the price

... kind... reef sharks (I think no bigger than 1.5 meters) but they certainly look a lot bigger under water. We kept our distance and let them get on with swimming past us.... but it was very cool to see them......saw tons of very cool fish at this spot as well. Amazing bright colours and the visibility was so good... completely clear! From the sharks we went on to a coral area and again saw many many lovely fish, many different varieties of coral. Some of the fish we saw ...

Relaxing in Pulau Perhentian Kecil, Malaysia

... night from midnight to early morning but that did not bother us.

Diving trips are aplenty and must be booked before the scheduled time. From a diver's point of view, it was a disappointment, according to Argi. He said the visibility was bad and there was nothing much marine life to be seen. But then again, Argi has been diving at some of the best parts of the world.

24th – 25th June 2008

There is not much ...

Turtle Point.. (Note the Singular Form.. Heh)

... turtles.. Turtle, i.e. ONE. Didn't spot it initially until I saw a whole bunch of people gathering.. Lo and behold! The largest turtle I have ever seen in my entire life, to the extent it was a little scary. If that thing fell on me, goodbye world! But it was rather shy of all the attention it was getting and deftly swam away when too many ...
