... and things like hot water and electricity can be scarce (at least where I was). Other obvious things (read: pollution!) also speak to their developing country status and their rush to keep up with the Joneses.

I think that my experience in China would have been that much richer had I been able to communicate better. Many people were surprised that I got as far as I did, where I did but I owe my sanity to the kindness of strangers. ...

... my parents and let them know I'd made the transPacific flight safely. Surrounded by the constant and awfully loud chatter of a language I didn't understand, I spent 40 minutes frantically trying to connect my computer to the internet. After I was fully frustrated, I packed up my laptop and found my group.

Walking up to the meeting place, I saw a few college age students standing around and hoped they were the right ones! ...

... Perhaps to compensate for the dubious first impression, the hostel owner was exceedingly helpful. Apart from shouting me a beer and upgrading me to a 3-bed dorm (which, admittedly, would have been cramped with one bed), he gave me all sorts of useful local information, such as the time zone, currency exchange rate and language (Cantonese, apparently). But it was too late – I had already fallen ...

... entry after we get home.

2pm- Hong Kong Airport. Taxi a mere 5 and Airport Express tickets 8 each- all so efficient. The train rolls into the airport and you alight one side for Terminal 1 or the other side for T2. No long queues for check-in and no one seems grumpy or rude. Ted fancied some stir fried beef and flat noodles which he is now consuming!

At the. Gate and spotted the Airbus 380 to Singapore! Ted and I are on the top deck- row 73 would you believe!
