Giant Buddha, Lantau Island

We missed breakfast this morning, as we were sleeping off some of our jet-lag! Once up and dressed we braved the MTR -(mass transport railway) to go to Lantau Island to see the Giant Buddha. Armed with our Octopus Card ( like a Go Card) we waited in line to add some money on it. The subway is pretty organised - there are signs above the doors showing the direction the train will be travelling in and all the stations along the way as well as which stations you can change "lines" ...

... the menus constantly. I even loved the pork buns - surprised myself - filled with pork and a gravy! The idea is to sit for hours just eating and chatting - all very social! When we leave it is bucketing down so we make a dash for the MRT to take us to Kowloon. Daniel has a business meeting so directs us to the train to Lantau to see the largest Buddha statue in Asia and also the cable car to the top to see him. Sadly it is wet and clouds come ...

... and could see from the safety cameras that there were other Western travelers and a small common space with a kitchen. Looked ok! Then, we were ushered out the door by the older man and brought back to the elevator. Nate had read a review on TripAdvisor about this place having 2 locations, and we guessed that we were off to the other location? Rumor had it that the other location was in a red light district... My first week here was a bit overwhelming. I won't lie. I'm sure I was the only foreigner in at least a 2 mile radius. I would walk around my neighborhood and people would stop and stare.
