    ... rebuilt using all the old stone and wood. Beautiful courtyards behind every gateway - and even with the current drought water runs through many parts of the town. We headed to a less developed old town - Shuhe where we stumbled on a vegetarian restaurant/guesthouse run by a Dutchman - great (non greasy) food and an interesting man. Called Nomads and some friends have since stayed there and said it was great.

    By the time our bus arrived in Lijiang and made all of it's shop stops it was already early afternoon. We walked around Lijiang's Ancient City which was spectacular. It is very large with winding roads and canals and all the the shops and buildings have the curved roof tops. The restrooms here are hilarious...5 star quality...they have tv screens in the squating stalls!! haha.
