The old town of Lijiang
Lijiang is a maze of cobbled streets, rickety wooden buildings and canals.
Very easy to get lost, which we did, wandering through the lanes and alleys lined with stalls making and selling beautiful handcrafts and knick-knacks.

The (way too popular) old town of Lijiang
... tourist-attraction-city. Also at night-time the central market place and surrounding streets offer a weird and somehow uninviting party-atmosphere with drunk and loud Chinese (and also western, but those seem to be better accustomed to partying and the consequences).

Tiger Leaping Gorge
... and ended with a two and a half hour descent and re-climb of a very steep section to the Tiger Leaping Stone, making us sweat like in a sauna again. The views down at the Tiger Leap Rock were amazing though too. However, we had to pay some Yuan extra for the paths there, as those were maintained by local families and as a result quite adventurous (see pictures to get an idea) :-).
All in all the Tiger Leaping Gorge was a spectacular site and great outdoor ...
In the mountains - sunny days and chilly nights.
... for the first time ever, was suffering from altitude sickness and so we returned to the road and instead had a gentle stroll. The views in both directions were splendid. Rocky mountain peaks soared above us on both sides of the gorge, one side lit by the sunlight and the other in shade.

Tiger Leaping Gorged Ourselves
... tasty food and continued (with a lot less chinese) the language lessons for the lady who ran the place. Having spent several weeks in Chinese cities, it was a great experience being in the tranquil countryside and the people out here (many of whom are from Tibetan or other ethnic backgrounds) seem different and more laidback than in the rest of China. Next up back to Lijinag where we are hoping some people may have left town.
