A 4:30 start had us pack our final few things and then follow the coast line to the airport as the sun rose over the ocean. Not many beach goers at this hour but we did see one or two people out, believe it or not. There was a dog laying on the pavement sound asleep. Probably found it cooler there although he/she does live dangerously I must say. After a long wait in what didn't seem like a very long line-up, we checked in at Lamezia ...

... and a bread made with "lievito madre". This literally means yeast of the mother and is yeast that has been continuously cultivated and renewed for over 100 years. They were given some 6 years ago when the restaurant opened and they add to it every day to keep it active. If the person that does this is on holidays, someone else is entrusted to take their place. What a concept.
The drive back was interesting as Rob has never driven these highways at night time. As ...

Exploring and Burning Rubber in Southern Italy

... I also had the best lemon granita (like a slushy but much more elegant!) I have ever tasted. This is a very pretty town and the houses are almost orange in colour as opposed to the grayish, beige, yellow tones we've seen. Also, the streets are lined with gelato places making it even more of a must see! This is where Rob burned rubber in Pizzo as we had to back track and do multiple u-turns to get into the gelato place parking lot. He may be a "snowflake" ...
