After an early morning swim in the pool and breakfast on the terrace, we said our farewells to Mark and Debs and hit the road. Chris took us part way up yesterday's cycle route to a fabulous viewpoint of lake Como and then onto the Ghisallo Di Madonna. The church a shrine to cyclists was great to see and a whole lot easier to get to in a car, but it somehow felt like I'd cheated ...
... idea at some point, the area was covered in poo and smelt. I was not happy so we trudged back uphill to another ski lift only to find the same. At this point I was getting a bit grumpy. Luckily the rain stopped so we found a poo free spot and had lunch.
We retraced our steps downhill with the rain following us and it has rained on and off since we got back – no change there. We leave tomorrow to head further north and to more mountains.
... and through the town of Riva del Garda. The vineyards in the valley and the magnificent mountains surrounding the lake make for very dramatic scenery.
Lago di Ledro is one of the smallest lakes in the area and just to the left of the top of Lake Garda. Our campsite is on the west shore with lovely views down the lake. We seem to have
found a spot next door to Anne, the Little Britain character and his carer Dr Lawrence.
... to upgrade our hire car to a Classic Italian Alfa Romeo Giuletta ( or similar) was a complete wast of time and we ended up with a citroen C3 Picasso. Not at all similar !! I will be taking this up with the hire company on our return. Other than that it has been a fantastic ten days which as Kate keeps on reminding me was all booked by her.... Except the car hire! ... we waited only 5 minutes and then the guy came out, chucked me the keys and told me to get into the gleaming red machine!
A lifetimes dream was about to come true, and after a brief rundown and strapping on the 6 point harness I hit the start button and 585 horses screamed into life! What a sound!
