... this trip, but I'm glad I did. It has been a wonderful place to chill out for a few days. I haven't done much while I've been here, hiking, napping, knitting, eating. That's pretty much it. I rented a little cabin up in the woods and it has been a great base for exploring the peninsula. Most mornings have started out with my trusty thermal mug of coffee and Addie dancing in the waves at Whitefish Bay State Park.

... was always marked by the odd hardwood tree turning a brilliant yellow or orange, usually in isolation among the evergreen trees. What I saw yesterday was an embarrassment of riches, everywhere I turned acres and acres of golds, reds and oranges covered the landscape. I tried a couple of times to get a good photo, but nothing could do it justice. Now when people say 'I miss the fall colors', I will have much more sympathy for them. I would miss them ...
After spending a few days in Chicago we were happy to arrive at Peninsula State Park. We couldn't have asked for a better campground with the park having a site right on Lake Michigan. Shortly after making dinner on our first night we were surprised when a park ranger drove around the campground announcing severe thunderstorm. We wisely moved to cover in the bathroom becoming concerned when the park ranger drove by again to announce a tornado warning was in affect. ...

... down to Baileys Harbor. We decided we had picked the right spot. Fish Creek has a yacht harbor, a beach, a small town full of older houses a lot of which are B & B, lots of restaurants and shops.
