I had to give the knife to my daughter for her checked luggage as we were traveling with carry-ons My daughter and I both had some Tillamook ice cream which was delicious.

We made several stops along the way to take photos and checked into the Comfort Inn in Newport.

Every spring our Grandma Ellie would take my cousin Lacey and I down to the Oregon Coast to stay with out Great Aunt Laura for 4 or 5 days. The weather was usually cloudy, foggy, and drizzly, but we spent every waking moment on the beach in Newport, OR (except when we would go to the aquarium to see the whale from Free Willy). Our next adventure took us from the mountains of Oregon to its coast. We headed first to a campground near South Beach OR, about a third of the way down the coast. After a few days there, we headed further south to Sunset Bay State Park so that we could continue our explorations.

Well we blew into Lincoln City about 5pm, although we had planned to arrive around noon. One of our missions was to find the hotel Mom and Peter had stayed in years earlier for their anniversary. We were all getting pretty hungry by now so planned to stop at the next town for lunch. By a stroke of luck this turned out to be at Cape Kiwanda, just at the beginning of Pacific City. As we pulled into the Pelican Pub parking lot we could see an expansive sandy beach and great long waves with little black surfer dudes balancing on top. We went to the Wal-mart to use the phone.

We went to the Oregon Aquarium.

We met an old friend of mine and walked on the beach.

... to Depot Bay. The fog was not AS bad as yesterday and 7 whales were spotted from the center. Unfortnately, we didn't see any. So, it was back to Lincoln City and dinner at Moto's, well-know for their seafood. We finished our time at the lake house watching the sunset and then enjoying a fire and a good movie on the VCR!!!

We just watched 4th of July Fireworks over the harbour in Newport. The fog was heavy, and there were 2 fish canning companies on the front. We weren't sure what we'd be able to see, and the fishy smell at times was a bit overwhelming. Again I am shocked by the rough edges of the locals...and their vocabularies are very limited. ... covered bridges as most are on the east coast. We did a small inland loop to visit Drift Creek Covered Bridge & is the oldest remaining covered bridge near Lincoln City.



We couldn't believe the size of the giant seagulls who in every town took a dislike to Nathan & would follow our car for miles ...
