Hi guys,
This is the final piece to the trip...Paris! And for all of those who thought a proposal would come out of it....I'd just like to say....I told you so. Dave would never choose to do it in Paris! It is way too cliche!
We started off pretty early on the Tuesday morning. Actually in hindsight, way too early! Getting up at four in the …

The scenario was that if war broke out in Europe these teams of army engineers would cross the Iron Curtain and then use small, portable nuclear devises to blow up dams and other types of large physical infrastructure to disrupt and slow down the evil ruskies. Wouldn't have done the local folk much good either. So I hoped the suspicious item was ...

We spent a lovely 3 days in Amboise on the Loire Valley just over 2 hours from Paris. We hired a car from Avis, Cam was driving and after spending about 10 minutes screaming at each other trying to get out of Paris we settled down once we reached the freeway. Our hotel the Bellevue was lovely we got the family room which was two connecting rooms with two bathrooms so we were very comfortable. The view from our room was ...

We also went to the Grand palace and the army museum where the hedges are shaped like bullets. The army museum is also the site of Napoleon's shrine, a gold dome in his honor can be seen from miles, it's very over the top (seems to be a theme for this guy!) , both were ...

    Muy adecuado

    from

    Nicely decorated rooms

    from

The newly decorated rooms were very nice, but the rooms are VERY small with even smaller amounts of storage. The housekeeping was very poor, they forgot to leave 2 sets towels one day, and then forgot to clean the coffee/tea service. We returned one day to find they had made one bed but not the other????? Called the reception desk, but nothing was done.

    Charming hotel

    from

I just got back from paris, spending 2 nights at the Mercure hotel opera Lafayette. It has just been completely renovated and it's small, but very charming! The room is decorated in warm chocolat and creme colours and very modern. The rooms are small, but extremely clean and the beds very comfortable. Just make sure to ask for a double bed, because first we had 2 seperate beds and it drove us crazy! They kept sliding apart, so no romance the first night... After changing rooms, we had a bigger room and a nice double bed. The interior is very minimalistic, like almost no space for putting your things in the bathroom or in the shower, but it didn't bother us. The shower has a huge sprinkler, with a massage swith on it. Nice! No bathtub though. But if you like to relax, on the ground floor a completely new relax area with a small but clean sauna, a hammam with mozaic tiles. It also has a 3 work out machines, a stepper, crosstrainer and a runningbelt. The people at the reception were allways very friendly and helpfull. You can park your car across the hotel for 23 euro/24hours. But we left it in front of the hotel on the street, because a fine only costs 11 euro a day... You just simply buy a stamp at the local tabacco store and drop it in the mailbox. Good location, next to metrostop "le pelletier", pink line 7. Plenty of restaurants & shopping

    Very adequate

    from

The hotel is in a great location with shopping in walking distance.. A subway called Metro is two minutes walk. The room seemed a bit small at first but actually was fine in size. Air conditioning was a must and it worked well. The room was clean and the shower was greatwith lots of pressure. I was afraid it might be a bit noisy right on the street but when the large windows were closed the room was very quiet. The bed was only a double and could have had more that two pillows. Lots of little fruitstand grocery shopes nearbyand a barfridge in room. The staff spoke english and were very helpful with maps and directions There is Macdonalds right beside the Metro which was handy for a quick coffee and continental style breakfast. We didn't have the breakfast the holel offers at 16 Euros. I thought it was a bit pricey for what looked to be available though maybe not for Parisian standards.

    Good value Lafayette

    from

A good value Tourist hotel, well situated for the Metro (2 stations within 5 mins. walk). Appx. 25 mins. walk to Sacre Couer, Oprea Madelaine, Gard de Nord. Lots of bars & eating places within the area. Bedrooms a little on the small side but clean with en suite facilities, hair dryer etc. A good continental breakfast served in the very attractive vaulted cellar.

Staff very friendly & helpful. Stayed for 3 nights March 2005.

    Would use again without hesitation.

    Good Value in Paris

    from

We accidentally happened upon the Libertel Lafayette, when we booked a "sister" hotel where renovations were not finished, and we were moved for our 4 day stay in April 2004. The room was small (probably normal for Paris), but was recently renovated and very clean. The staff were bi-lingual and were wonderful during our stay, helping us with our room, with using a phone card, and with a universal electrical adaptor when ours broke. They were always pleasant, and the breakfasts were generous and delicious (a bargain). The area is what we assumed is the CBD, and has cafes, some more up-market restaurants, and of course, the big department stores, the Opera Garnier etc. The hotel is less than 5 minutes from the Metro. The street is busy during the day, and our room didn't have airconditioning, so if that is not available now, having the balcony door open could be noisy (it was very chilly in April). It would be worth checking this out for a summer stay. We enjoyed our stay very much, and we walked to many attractions from the hotel. Very good at the price we paid.

    Amazing

    from

I stayed here during a seven day trip to Paris. I have absolutely nothing to complain about. The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, the breakfast was great. The hotel was perfectly situated in Paris. Close enough to still feel in the "middle" of the amazing city , but still not too close. I have no complaints what-so-ever to give. Also, if you don't speak French, most of the staff do. They are more than happy to speak English. I strongly reccomend that anyone wanting to go to Paris stay here.

    Disappointment

    from

I spent 4 nights at Libertel Lafayette's in summer 2003. I arrived the hotel at 3 p.m. but check in time was 5.30 p.m.

because the room was not ready. The staff where snooty and unfriendly.

The room was very small, almost like a shoebox. The breakfast was poor and the small bar was closed at all times. Don't go there!

    Loved Libertel Lafayette

    from

I spent about a week at this hotel while on business. It was reserved for me by my company and I found it to be an excellent choice. It is a brisk walk away from Monmartre, L'Opera, and many of Paris's famous landmarks. The room was clean and comfortable. However, although I enjoyed 'feeling the flavor' of the city as I looked out my window, which faced the front of the hotel, I did find it somewhat noisy. Therefore, if you are a light sleeper you may want to request a room facing the rear of the building. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The staff was always helpful as well. No need was unattended. The cafe across the street, General Lafayette, is a nice option for lunch or dinner. I highly recommend this property.
