Still, I arrived in
Ollantaytambo and, still in self-indulgent mode, headed for the
nearest decent-looking place, “Heart's Cafe” for coffee and a
cake. It just happened to be run by a British pensioner who had
started a charity in the Sacred Valley looking after woman and
children, providing healthcare and a nursery to help develop the
kids' Spanish at a young age. A worthy cause, indeed.
I then set off for the ...
... looking at the green thing trying to figure out what it was. Realized it´s a whistle and thought ¨Hmmm...wonder if it works¨ Stuck it in my mouth to try (yes, it did work) and then thought ¨Uh oh! I wonder how many mouths THAT has been in¨
Quick change into my bathing suit for a dip in the hot waters...or so I thought. Towely, washy & razor were very disappointed in the water temp and groused the entire time =) But, the walk though ...
... me as í´m heading back to MP for a 2nd time tommorow. Then I´ll catch the train to Ollantaymbo and from there the bus back to Cusco, and all going well I should be back in Cous Cous by 10pm tommorow night.
The Inca Trail itself was fantastic. We were a 16 strong group and it´s an ardous but immensely rewarding trek. The breakdown of the 43km was approx 8, 12, 16, 7 with Day 2 being the hardest as we had a really long ...
... Dead Womans Pass.
There was no pressure to walk at a certain speed so we took it very slowly! The scenery got more fantastic the higher we got although there were no ruins to see this time. We rolled into the camp at about 3pm for lunch and a well deserved rest. I can´t really comment on the quality of the food because I didn´t eat anything, but it looked ok!! Early night after dinner.
... from 6 am straight until close at 8 pm and probably not have seen it all. It is incredibly up-kept and whatever structure had worn with time had been restored…or rebuilt. The grass lawn in the complex was impressive-especially for a country that doesn’t typically have lawns anywhere. Perhaps we were over warned about the large crows as our imaginations pictured the place practically shoulder to shoulder with people, but it wasn’t. There ...
Aguas Calientes, Sacred Valley, Peru bjergaard... good! The food was great, the service was good and the price was outstanding. The only problem was it was more of a tourist restaurant - even though the prices were good by our standards it is pretty much the highest priced restaurant in town so the locals can't afford to eat there. What a shame because it was delicious! I had a seafood stew with local trout and shrimp and Amy had an alpaca steak. Yes alpaca, those animals that look like llamas, only fluffier ...
Urubamba, Sacred Valley, Peru derekjjensen... socks and laid down to relax. It was so hot! We even met some people from Fort Lauderdale, that had just been in West End with their boat last weekend! How funny is that!
The only regret I had for Machu Picchu was that I didn’t take enough photos….who knows when we would return again! But then again, I was feeling sick and I really had to push myself that day. Just my luck!

... at the ruins and pretended to perform a sacrifice . Apparently, up until a few years ago, they actually did perform a llama sacrifice. I’m sure PETA jumped all over that.
I chose not to go to the rave, went to a hostel, where we took a shower, met some people and chilled. I went to sleep, and woke up about 4 hours later to music that blaring from downstairs. This place was a real dump and run by 2 16 year old girls. They were partying it up and there was no ...
... to find itnernet to settle lukeys flights. ´we head out the next day to see some ruins on the tourist ticket. another thing you get ripped off for in cusco. costs 70 quid each to see certain sites you have to have it...little do they tell you , you could have paid A LOT less for individual ones you did want to see. argggghhhhhhh! anyhoo... i drag lukey to see these crop circley thingies...laughing ...
Urubamba, Sacred Valley, Peru kariandlukeyb... and they all want to pet him and hold him. They all clapped and cheered for you when they heard that I was your brother. It was very special to be able to be at the same place that your package and letter arrived. We are sending a letter to you and Addison back home with José. After that we went to the knitting groups meeting and hung out. Jose has them keep track of their finances in a register and was encouraging them to sell some ...
