... we were up here i said goodbye to the three local dogs. We'd nicknamed one Smiley dog as it appeared to constantly be grinning, and when you gave it a fuss it'd get so excited it would wet itself.
Having skipped breakfast in place of coffee, we returned to Afros in Acharavi. We had a massive brunch of seafood: calamari, whitebait, tuna fritters etc. and then said our farewells to Costas and Chris. I'm sure we will see them again.

We decided to go and explore Corfu Castle, the older of two fortresses in the town. The fortress was huge, and had been in use for centuries. We watched the bands march through the town, finally congregating in front the Lindon cafes. Here they stood in the rain and played in turn, then marched back into the city. The whole occasion was watched over by a large crowd of Greeks, both from Corfu and the mainland, who braved the rain and cheered the bands. It was definitely worth getting out of bed for. ...
