Today we cruise into Corfu, Greece. It is a beautiful sight as we enter the harbour. Corfu town is shown as Kerkyra and is the capital of Corfu island. It is the third largest town on Corfu island. Corfu has over history been ruled by the Venetians, the French, and the British, and each occupier has left their own mark on the town. It is the only town in Greece with a cricket pitch! There is 3-4 thousand olive trees on the island and many are 400 years old. ...

We fumbled our way (her English is not very good, and my Greek isn't much better) into an agreement that I'd be arriving on the island at 11:30 PM. Paid for my ticket and ran--always ...

... to Italian churches. We then drove to Achilleion Palace which has beautiful gardens and classical statues overlooking the coast. This was built by and Austrian empress in the late 1800s - and it really was very beautiful. During the war it was used as a hospital and later as an orphanage before it was restored for tourists to view. We drove through the main town and by this stage it was so wet we decided to return to the ship and warm up and have ...

    What's Cookin' in Corfu?

... This tends to ruin the next meal, of course. But it really is fun! I have to admit that I'm rarely tempted to cook them at home...I'm too lazy.

The Culinary Discovery Tours are a twist on this theme. There is always a classroom (or kitchen) component. But most of it occurs off the ship, and it varies a great deal at the port where they are scheduled. So we signed up for the Corfu CDT, since there's not a lot to see here, other than a ...
