... relaxed on the beach for a few hours. Mary was happy to finally have a swim here. The water is crystal clear and its a pretty spot with lots of pine trees and nice views. After here we went back into town and bought our ferry tickets for tomorrow afternoon back to Skiathos. Dinner out at a taverna in town. We had zucchini balls, then Troy had Kefta (lamb and potatoes) and Mary had chicken cordon bleu. So full and then we got free ouzo and brandy ...
... was great so we didn’t lug our luggage down the many stairs. We hang around the ferry terminal, Mary ducks out to buy some greek pastries which are cheap and filling. We get on board our ferry to Skopelos which took about 1.5 hrs (this is a slow ferry) and cost us 9.50 euro each.
Note to self: If return try Hotel Christina, San Remo Hotel, Hotel Atki as they are on ground level and on opposite side of busy main street (all near Babis Hotel).
... of gold are in the sand. The best one and most known is Koukounaries Beach which means 'Stone Pines'. At Koukounaries there is a lagoon and a wooded peninsula with a Stone Pine
(Pinus pinea) forest separating the lagoon from the Aegean Sea.
It is said that Princess Diana used to go to Skiathos for holidays. I'm not surpirsed to be honest.
I really recommend you a film called "Mamma Mia!". Some of the scenes weher shot in Skiathos.
... so we are hoping to do some sightseeing of the area over the next couple of days. Luckily we had a waiter from the resort that is from that area of Thessaloniki, who gave us some places to eat and sights to see.
We have met some very nice people along the way, both Britts and Greeks who have given us good advice on what to see and do. The food has been good but not spectacular. ...
... petro station which was about 300 meters away, up a hill...just as we neared the top of the hill the engine dies! Thinking we are out of gas, Dave grabs a 1 L water bottle and heads to get some petro...he puts it in and the thing doesn't work, dead battery...so he runs back to the rental place and they come up and jump us get us to the gas station and we are off...the next 24 hrs go quite well with no mishaps...this is by far the best way to see a place.
