... the architecture of the buildings are lovely and there are so many tree lined streets with cafes. Visited El Retiro park today as well, just beautiful with a gorgeous crystal palace and lake that you could row boats around. We visited the Mercado San Miguel market for an awesome lunch made with local produce and then visited San Gines Chocolateria for some yummy churros. ... made it back to the hotel. Then I sat in the lobby trying to get the grades for the engineering class entered, which was hard with the ****** internet. I took a break for dinner, and then stayed in the lobby working on random stuff that needed to be done.

Sunday I woke up, got some breakfast, and watched some of the group leave. Then those of us who were left went to Puerta del Sol, an old plaza, and walked around while ...

... they scratch thru the top layer to expose the colour below, following intricate patterns) There is a beautiful cathedral and a fortress style palace (Castle Alcazar)- we climbed the 156 steps for amazing views. Very hilly and there are deep gorges carved by the two rivers that converge here. Ideal spot for a fortified city. We paused for morning tea at the Granier panes artesanos (pastry shop). They had 3 Portuguese custard tarts for EUR 1. ...
