By the afternoon of April 1st, when I walked Lily, I counted 31 empty sites out of the 63 sites in the park. It was a mass exodus to the north country. Most of the winter residents had been there since December or January. They were homesick. It was time for them to go home. We aren't ready to return yet.. ... on the other. The island is not more that a couple hundred yards wide in places. The fort is part of the National Park System so there is no development on this part of the barrier island. It’s really pretty deserted right now.

Interesting note: The white sand is ground quartz that has was down the rivers over millennia from the Appalachian Mountains. Who knew water and time could make such beautiful sand from mountain rocks? ...

... bowling, we went into the bar at the bowling alley. They were doing karaoke in there so we went in there and sang along. What a great night. It was a big change from where we stayed with Mesa. There was only 2 restaurants around the hotel Mesa stayed at so unless you got a cab to go somewhere, you were stuck there with nothing to do. ...
