The Hotel Hullu Poro (Crazy Reindeer) was a great base for our holiday in Levi, Finland. It was in the heart of Levi with everything we needed close at hand. It was very welcoming, warm and cozy. We stayed in one of the hotel's annexes. I think I would of preferred to have stayed in the main hotel as my hair froze every morning on the way to breakfast, but we loved our room nevertheless. The hotel had a good bar area and their hot chocolate was beautiful. They also had a well stocked shop from which we bought many souvenirs. We stayed half board at the hotel so had breakfast and an evening meal there most nights. The breakfast was a typical continental breakfast, but when they did bacon that was delicious. The evening buffet had a large selection of food to cater for everyone's taste. We loved our stay here and would definitely recommend it to anybody.

Having departed Manchester Airport, UK at an ungodly hour, we finally landed safely at Kittila Airport, Finland after a 3 1/2 hour flight on Sunday the 25th January 2015 to a snowy wonderland. Remembering to put our watches forward 2 hours, the Lapland adventure had begun. The first thing that struck me when coming in to land was wow look at …

... underneath but it wasn't that cold thank goodness. I hate to think what it would have been like if it was still -28 like a few days ago! -10 seems quite manageable!
We stopped for a beer at the pub on the way back to the cottage.

      ... of days ago.

This was a really good tour, long enough to get a feel for it but not too long to get really cold. We could hire Snowmobiles and DIY but we donīt know where to go!! The tracks all look the same and it is all white! One of the other guests said the same thing that they prefer to go on a tour with a guide. I think you would have to go quite a few times before you could really feel confident on your own.

... snow so you have to just let them go, slowing for corners.  The scenery was just beautiful.  The sun was coming up so everything was sparkling in the light.  We have to keep kicking ourselves to believe what we are seeing, it is so spectacular.  Not sure how long we were actually out there, maybe 30-40 minutes but it was a 10km ride.  As a passenger, my feet were getting a bit cold and my hands were cold with the camera ...

Anyway, after the gondola ride, we then walked around the little village and then out onto a Winter Walking track through the forest. This was quite spectacular walking through so much snow and everything is white and it is so quiet. Sometimes we cross another track and may see cross-country skiers or others ...
