      ... had to enter. We were treated to one room of around 8 wax figures. There was a blacksmith, a soldier, a minstrel and several historical figures from the town.       ... an observatory and a planetarium with regularly scheduled shows. We then climbed three more flights of stairs to the observation deck to try out the Camera Obscura, the ‘eye of Eger’, designed in 1776 to entertain townspeople. This is one of only two functioning camera obscuras of this type in Europe, the other being in Edinburgh, but this is the oldest. This one was designed by Miksa Hell. It is an astounding treasure.

      Noszvaj is a small town of about 1800, where my dad grew up. It is near the larger centre of Eger which is known for its thermal springs. My aunt and uncle had built a large house for their family, who had since moved out with families of their own, so we had a huge place to ourselves, including our own bedrooms and bathrooms which was a bonus.       ... love and sacrifices were made to her here. Farmers say there was a famously beautiful woman who used to sell wine in one of the cellars. Of course we made several jokes that I was the beautiful woman!! Unlike the wine regions in Australia, it is extremely easy to get from cellar to cellar here. No need to do a bus tour or have a car - you just walk as they are right next to each other! The over 150 cellars are carved into several hundred metre thick tufa in the hills of the valley, ...
