    ... the others had great views of Black Woodpecker. We went back to the hotel for breakfast, and as we were getting out of the car a Black woodpecker flew over! After breakfast we headed to Roy's village, about 5 miles from Eger. We walked through woods by the village wine cellars, mostly disused, but overnight rain made the track impassable.     ... residents, with coots, possibly a gadwall, and Great and Pygmy cormorants. We headed back after this, arriving at the hotel at 4.30, time to catch up with my bird list and have a welcome g&t. The first siege is particularly noteworthy as 2-3,000 troops held off an army of 35-40,000 for 39 days, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers. They also lost about 1/3 of their own number.
