So, we finally managed to get a weekend away from Bangkok, out of the hustle and bustle of the big city and down to the quiet seaside resort of Hua Hin. The eight of us heading for the sunshine dashed out of the school gates dead on half two, loaded up with beer and provisions, jumped into our waiting mini bus and set out on our two and half hour drive to the beach. One hour later and we have managed to consume most of the drink, inevitably leading to a quick toilet stop. It is only when we s...

Today we have an early flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. We ordered the taxi to come pick us up at 5:30AM since our flight was at 7AM. I would say the only draw back is the location from everything else (which is a plus sometimes), but they wanted 500Baht for the pickup (it was only 400Baht from the airport on the way over). Anyway, can't really argue ...
Hua Hin, Thailand davidwshihPoon Suk street got us thinking about Dr Prunesquallor. Was he a Mervyn Peake or a Kenneth Horne character? We think Peake.
Just back from the Thai boxing. The Brit guy won his bout. The best fight was between two 10 year olds - pure aggression, no dancing or politicking around. First time either of us have been to see ...
As is only to be expected travelling with Jon and his bl**dy computer, which is too precious to leave unattended in Blighty, the aforementioned laptop fell from his bag onto the road as we were trying to negotiate a taxi to the bus station to come to Hua Hin. Thankfully the laptop survived (unlike the one which suffered a similar fate in a carpark in Coin. Spain - it's monitor died).
So ...
Here we are, at the beach for a couple of days before the big flight home. Pierre agreed to go, despite the extreme heat and the fact that he's simply not a beach person. I had picked the site at Hua Hin for a few reasons:
1- it can easily be reached by train under 4 hours
2- it's considered older (ie. as in an older crowd) and therefore, there are less beer-swigging yahoos, ski-doos, motorboats and by default, should be less ...
The beauty of Hua Hin is unique to it's nature. The air is filled with
the beach town vibe while containing all the comforts of a city. This
beach town has not lost it's good old rule generosity and hospitality
due to mass influx of tourism. Many other cities have been culturally
dominated by the ways of the west. For example in Koh Samet when
entering a store I would "wai" the shop keeper and he ...
... 10 years old trying to sell roses and what not. Both nate and i looked at her and were like what, am I going to buy him a rose? She wouldn't leave. We started another game of pool, she came up to me and said she was good at pool and wanted to play nate. She boasted about being able to beat nate, so i said go ahead. After about 2 turns she came over and said that if she won, i had to buy her a rose. I said what the ...
Hua Hin, Thailand bbart0012... landed in Bangkok, collected our luggage (now down to a single bag since we left most of it in Singapore) and headed out through customs to find the man waiting with a sign with our name on it. I had successfully managed to book an online limousine transfer for the 4 hour journey from the airport to Hua Hin. This service www.taxihuahin.net was simple and easy and the price quoted online was 3000 baht for a minibus. The minibus was ...
Hua Hin, Thailand guykb... a bottle of water, get our luggage stowed and find our seats. It was all really easy and we both felt really good that our worries were for nothing. We weren;t the only Farang on the bus, which made us feel slight better, for some weird reason! The trip was absolutely fine. A bit bumpy, rubbish air con that smelled of fish but we did get a bottle of water to drink and a curtain to shield the baking hot sun. About 3 hours later we arrived at our destination, really chuffed with our ...
Hua Hin, Thailand lisartw... passes, and more time passes, and as time passes, a certain Thai magic begins to work on the falang and one day he gets that eerie feeling that he is hooked on her, that if she left him he would die, but he is in total denial and even dares her to leave, saying, "I am the one with the money". One day, perhaps after some misunderstandings and certain unpleasant exchanges, she turns cold, or perhaps she goes off to visit her mother or something of that nature. This event takes ...
