... societies whose appellations are made up of three Greek letters – Phi Beta Kappa, for example.

Lunch at the Amalia Hotel in the new village of Delphi was tasty, and another good opportunity to begin some new friendships. With the political parades in Athens there were difficulties in getting all the tour group back to their hotels and we found ourselves dropped off at Syntagma Square after a circuitous ride through the city to drop off others. We ...
Delphi, Central Greece, Greece karana... admit. At that moment, two trail bikes whizz across an unseen track right in front of me. The first fine drops of rain feather my arm. That's it - the magic is well & truly broken... who needs to see some more old ruins anyway?! I decide to turn around & hope to get down before it starts in earnest.
On the way, I loop across to what I think is Mt Parnassus and do a little dance of ...
Delphi, Central Greece, Greece marcdolav... Ruins of Temple of Apollo even more striking. The natural landscape alone is breathtaking: 8,000 years of recorded history inflates the impression manyfold. The things they assembled here, with their technology & transportation, just beggar belief!
A glass of chilled retsina to watch the precious sun go down prompts reflection on the many centuries of human (and otherwordly) strife and struggle in this magical land.
Have really arrived, at last!
KAMENA VOURLA , GR., Greece greekcypriot... br>They had an amphitheater that sat 6,000 (!) and an open market and everything. At the veeeery top they had a stadium for footraces, which of course I had to go see. It was only a 15 minute hike up polished marble and polished marble steps (read: SLIPPERY), with no handrails, and of course, no assistance from anyone. But I did it, damnit! Views were beautiful.

Back to Athens now!

<3
Delphi, Central Greece, Greece arigney87... ruins and other mountains off in the distance. From the Lonely Planet: "Ancient Greeks regarded Delphi as the centre of the world; according to mythology, Zeus released 2 eagles at opposite ends of the world and they met here." So we too made our own pilgrimage to Delphi.

We stayed at Hotel Athina- nice place and it came with breakfast.

Traveling from Delphi to Athens:

We left at 4:30pm and got to Athens 3 hours later at 7:30pm.
Delphi, Central Greece, Greece feliz_carolina... lunch and some shopping. After a great lunch we strolled around the town. After looking in three other countries Beth found some Ski gloves in Arachova. I found some Formaella cheese. This cheese is made from a blend of goat's milk and sheep's milk. It is only sold in Arachova and is served grilled with a little pepper and lemon juice. It is ...
Delphi, Central Greece, Greece theskinners... ruinerne jo laa hoejt oppe.
Delphi, Central Greece, Greece stikat... pointless when so much is lost in the end--human life, ancient art, cultural treasures, etc. Grrr. Anywho, we visited the Acropolis for some time, seeing the various structures that still stand and envisioning the ones that no longer do, then hopped on the little tour bus en route towards another ancient Greek city, Mycenea. Stopping breifly in Korinth to see the great canal, we then had another tour of the "beehive tombs" of ancient ...
Delphi, Central Greece, Greece mariaapalermo... and that record was found in Delphi. Even though it rained, Delphi was better than I thought it would be. I think the weather actually added to the experience. The ancient cit is located on the slopes of a huge mountain. While we were there the sky was overcast, wisps of clouds were sneaking through the mountains, and rain was lightly falling. It added a mystical mysteriousness to such a mystical place. Of course at the stadium, Jacob and ...
