... at the campground and do nothing for another day hoping that it would be OK to move tomorrow, stay at the hostel and do nothing, or cycle in the rain. Olympia is a small town with only one site, so it was discouraging to think of staying and spending money with nothing to do.

The debate took us until lunchtime with time and patience both running short. Finally we decided to set out. But upon leaving, I ...
Tholo, Greece 2totango... this is supposed to be the off season! Fighting through the crowds of colour-coded name-tag wearing tourists rushing to follow their banner-carrying leader to get to the bus before it leaves.

But once we were inside the complex, the area was huge ! And all the tourists inside kept huddled closely to their leaders so as not to get lost.

This is an area of amazing beauty ...
Olympia, Peloponnese, Greece 2totango... can’t continue like this. What’s the point if we can’t see what we want of these countries? Winter is settling in. No matter how mild it is in comparrison to Canada, it’s not meant for cycling and camping.

The areas of Turkey we want to see are no better for temperature and rain. I even looked to Australia and it’s full of thunderstorms this time of year ...
Olympia, Peloponnese, Greece 2totango... to go to San Diego to the current training center. Irony.

Another nerdy word fact: Broken pottery was called "ostraka". Every so often at various political meetings, if you were identified as an enemy of the state or someone who was a "bad" person, they would vote by writing your name on an ostraka piece. The result was you being kicked out of the city for a certain amount of time, or being "ostracized". Cool, huh?

Off to Athens!

<3
Olympia, Peloponnese, Greece arigney87... br>
Traveling from Olympia to Athens:

For some reason we had a hard time nailing down when the bus would leave in the morning so we just woke up early and waited. There were a bunch of buses that came through but it wasn’t the bus we wanted. The bus came at 8:30 am from Olympia to Pyrgos which took 30 minutes and cost a couple of Euros. Then we took a bus from Pyrgos to Athens which cost 25 Euros. We left at 9:30 am and arrived in Athens at 1pm.

Once we got to the site, the burned trees were on the hill right above us. And Indy said the Olympia museum was spared by nothing but a miracle. The road between Vassai and Olympia was lined with arboral memorials to all of Creation lost to the flames.
Olympia, Peloponnese, Greece tiara316... the how the athletic festival was conducted. She made the guys demonstrate it, in fact! They did an Olympic run - the real thing at the real place! Jason won the race and got the honour of receiving the Olive crown from our guide. At the sight of Hera's Altar - the place where the Beijing torch was lit, we felt this sudden sense of oddity. New meets ...
Olympia, Peloponnese, Greece ikanbilis... happiness. Other people have souls, or else we would not be here. The more people we care about, the more options there will be for happiness to be opened up for us. ANYTHING ELSE? Furthermore, I believe we all share the same soul. Why? Well, biology can tell us that two human lives can create a third. Correct. But, that new life stems from something biological, not something supernatural. There's no reason to believe a human birth signifies something as cosmically ...

One of the highlights of this museum is the Winged Nike of Olympia. This statue would have been held in the massive hand of the statue of Zeus. Nike herself is much taller than I, and I can't imagine the size of the colossal Zeus statue. The most important thing the museum at Olympia houses ...
