Enjoying Cappadokia

The host is offering a walk in the morning which we happily accept and we walk through the Pigeons valley to Göreme.

The nature has created through erosion ınteresting formed stones hats ınto the tuff stone. In the older days until about 1920 many people have carved out from these little holes - so called pigeon cages. Here lived millions of pigeons and all of there excrements have been collected as fertilizer for the nearby rich agricultural fields. At that time this was a h...

Reunion with the new members

In the morning we go again for a walk with our host plus two other French guests and this time we go up the mountain along a crete. This walk our host has found as he was doing his own balooning and leads from the valley bottom through a nice gentle walk up to the a path who ıs about 30 m below the crete. Here the highest pigeons caves can be found and the walk is rewarding with an excellent view over the different valleys.

Some of the baloons that have departed this morning can ...

Balooning and other highlights

05:45 wake-up and punctually at 06:15 the car collects us in front of the hotel and we are going to the balooning base. After the registration and a coffee we have to wait until the crew has determined the best starting position for todays ride. This is always dependant on the day's weather and wind condition and the company wants to offer the best ride over the beauties of the region.

We finally depart and arrive at a field about 10 km ourside Göreme, where the start will take place. ...

Last day in Cappadokia

We go for our last walk with the host. Today we go through the White Valley (locals say Honey Valley) and then through the Lovers Valley. The first one is from its name pretty clear that the whıte and yellow colour of the stone was giving the name of this valley and as usual the walk is a good physical exercise with plenty of impressions of the formations. Our host leads us up through a small crete and then we enter the Lovers valley from a beautiful entry point. http://de.wikipedia.org/...

Thankfully on this occasion smoke signals were not necessary to warn the tribe of 'Homo Germanopithicus Touristus' that our imminent convergence on their Swedish made wagon was imminent and unavoidable- I cautioned Christina: "Eyes ahead, and for God's sake don't mention the War!" We past peacefully with only a salutory head-nod to give credit to their ...

... tons of small stairs, but with no rails at all, and you could fall down hundreds of feet. Very dangerous! But we climbed to the top and could see all the way across the Bosphurus to the other fort on the Asian side, which Mehmet also built, and to the bridge. It was very cool. The guy at the gate gave Lu a huge kiss, like so many people do here. After the fort, we walked back to Bebek right next to the Bosphurus. We saw lots of men fishing. One nice guy ...

Cappadocia rocks- a lot!!!

... the Turkish driver obviously could not give. It was well past 10pm and we could still see the bright lights in the city of Istanbul. Tylenol PM worked its magic, and I slept until the sunrise. We stopped at Nevshir, a city that the travel guides and websites warned tourists not to get off. So I stayed glued to the seat, only to be relieved and really excited to see the crazy rock formations in Goreme! If creepy is the word ...

Cappadocia

... 6 beds but I had it to myself. I can't imagine 6 people in there since there were only 2 dim light bulbs controlled by one switch over someone's bed. The room was a little musty but quite cool. I walked around a little to scope out the town. The area seems quite poor with pretty primitive living conditions. As bakground, Cappadocia is the name of the region in central Turkey, while we stayed in the town of Goreme. Cappadocia flourished between the 4th and 11th ...

One of them immediately started to climb it and continued up some really worn-out stairs (so bad that they required him to slide back down on his butt since they were too dangerous to walk down). The other Aussie and I chickened out and didn't follow him up, though it sounds like we missed out on some incredible views from the top. We were only supposed to be at the monastery for 20 minutes, but that wasn't nearly ...
