"Some days are diamonds" and the day we arrived here in Grindelwald was one of those! Now, Grindelwald isn't just any old Swiss town, no way! This town is 1050m up and is the doorstep to the "Big Boys" - the highest mountains in Northern Europe - Finsteraarhorn (the biggy!) 4274m, Jungfrau 4158m and Monk - 4107m along with a huge range of others. Our day was a diamond because we have a camp site with a million ...

Due to the fact we had no plans this morning we were in no hurry to leave the hotel. We finally decided to just drive around the area, and see the valley around us. We are in a tiny village in the country. There are farms around us with many cows, and sheep. You can hear the cow bells ringing in all directions. The views of the mountains are just spectacular. We stopped at Trummelbach Falls on the other side of ...

That night we stocked up on supplies and made our dinner in the little kitchen the hotel provides. ...

OK, so the plan was to take in the views and do some shopping. The plan was NOT for it to have rained most of the night and the visibility to be nil (i.e. can't see the mountains for cloud)

Anyway being Rock Hard Geordies rather than Soft Southern Shandy Drinkers, we donned waterproof jackets trousers, shoes, socks and underwear (well maybe not the last two) and set off without the benefit of sherpas on our mountain and shopping trek. Of course ...

    Interlaken / Grindelwald

A travel blog entry by scottandmel on Jan 03, 2014

... We walked through the town and down into the valley and then got on the longest cable car ride in Europe (Maennlichen). Wow!! It was absolutely incredible and we really enjoyed the views of the surrounding mountains and watching the skiers/snowboarders coming down underneath us! We went all the way up to the top and spent some time up there ...
