... and clock. It has great cultural and historical significance which is why, along with the old city of Bern, it is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
It was now 11am and the tourists were getting hungry for food...and shopping. From here we broke into groups so as to see more of the sites of Bern as well as the shops. Mc Donalds was a popular stop as it had (very expensive) food as well as a bathroom, and H &M (there were 3 in Bern) was, as usual, popular ...
... the lakes) where we stretched our legs and took a few photos of the surrounding area. It was then only a short drive to our destination – Lauterbrunnen.
From here we caught a cable car part-way up the mountain and then began the trek to our lunch destination – the village of Mürren. It took a little over an hour and a half and that included a half way stop for coffee and hot chocolate. All the while the views were getting more and more amazing.
A cold late start but stunning beautiful clear weather, for
about half an hour, and then the clouds came in. However it wasn’t raining so
outside with us. Still feeling a little piqued from the previous days exertions
we set off on a short walk to observe the Le Saut-Du- Doubs waterfall. Very
pretty it was too. The lake nearby had a lot of small fish in it.
After a slow walk back the rest of the day was spent on housework
... by a lake. The setup was rather strange as the site had mainly residential mobile homes and the facilities including chargeable showers were outside of it and seemed to be used by other people. There was a small restaurant/shop opposite and another restaurant closer by the lake. So we decided to stay on a large car park by the campsite overnight but found out in the morning that we were not supposed to and received some head shaking ...
We were nursing sore heads today!
What a night! The Swiss people know how to party! We slept until 3pm.. almost a whole day wasted.. but not entirely. With recommendations from Manuel.. we went by train to a couple of lakeside destinations.. Lausanne and Montreux. Check out the photos to get an idea of just how beautiful these places are. I have no words.
