    ... exquisite, soft black leather shoes. We trudge up the stony trail behind our cheerful Sardinian guide Simone shouting encouragement "bella donnas not too far now. You 'ave glass of champagne at top, look at view, everybody 'appy". We share some lukewarm wine; we freeze, laugh, take photos and stumble back down to a serious supper of wild boar with white beans. It's so good I have an extra helping.

    ... nothing else was wonderful.

    Back down in the port, the elite French SAS train in zodiacs, being upturned and then timed getting back into them....all in full fatigues with helmets and guns. One could potentially get into difficulties whilst bathing in the bay, and require rescuing, one supposes......

    Empuries was the furthest outpost of the Greek Empire and although it is not thought Hannnibal ever visited, legions of Romans used this spot as a disembarkation point for invasion. Greek and Roman ruins are evident. Whilst we were visiting, the exhibition in the local museum focussed on the sex lives of the Romans. Those racy Romans!

    I picked one and it turns out my mum's sister was running the place. Well obviously not, but her manner, and the way she dealt with the guests, and her weird little things she kept round the place reminded me of the oldie.
    Pretty basic hotel, weird dolls, but was warm and dry.

    We've come back to La Franqui. It's a cheap campsite on the beach. Last year it was scorching. This year we arrived to warnings of a storm. A couple of beers ensured a great nights sleep and the weather has changed. The wind has died, the sun is shining and there is some blue sky. D will be able to go in the sea. We spent 4 days here.
