After leaving the Piedmont region of Italy, and before heading back to Geneva for the airport, we made a quick two-day stop in the beautiful French alpine town of Chamonix. Arriving here on Thursday in the driving rain, we kept hoping for a break in the weather so that we could see the fabulous alps, including the Mt. Blanc, the highest peak in Europe.

... heading off again on the drive to Chamonix – Still unsure what way to go, and utilising Satnav and Viamichelin (an online service that calculates routes including tolls and fees). Ended up going through Switzerland which was the shortest and quickest route. Had to buy a ‘vignette’ at the border, which allows use of the motorways but it was still cheaper than if we had used the French tollways!

... and we could see right over the valley and down to the town below. We had such great luck that the weather was good and there were only a few clouds around behind the mountains.
