Les Aiglons Auron

Leave from nice on the Chemins de fer de Province (diesel train) to Touet-sur-Var. And then the steam train to Entrevaux, city with amazing views. On the way back a quick stop in Puget-Théniers.

We drove through Valbonne on our way to Gourdon, a village in the mountains situated on the
side of a cliff. Gourdon is only 15 Km’s from our house but translates to about 1 hr of driving
time on the mountain roads. It was worth every white knuckle minute as we cruised along listening to "The Smurfs" singing in French. We drove on the Gorges du Loup circuit and stopped at the beautiful waterfalls in Saut du Loup. We ...

them make candies, jam, and chocolate from flowers such as rose, jasmine, and violets. Very
interesting seeing a factory that still makes everything by hand. Their products are so unique and tasted great!

We also couldn’t miss the big tourist attraction - Marineland. It is about 5 minutes from our house and we decided to get the 2 day pass that also gives us admission to Aqua Splash their water ...

... beetje vaart achter. De zon komt tevoorschijn en met de sneeuw, zou dat wel eens kunnen zorgen voor heel wat extra water bij het afdalen.
Op het einde blijkt dat we de canyon in iets meer als 2 uurtjes afgehaspeld hebben, terwijl er 3,5 uur in de topo beschreven staat. Goed gewerkt dus!

Deze canyon was toch wel echt de moeite en zal zeker niet snel vergeten worden!

... tot boven aan het vertrekpunt van de Peïra.

Vooral de afsluitende waterval is echt de moeite waard! Vanaf een punt waar je geen uitzicht hebt op de onderkant van de canyon, moet er een stuk gerappeld worden naar een nieuwe relais een tiental meter naar onder en aan de rechterkant van de grote waterval. Daar moeten we overpikken en een nieuwe rappel installeren.

Vandaag doen we de canyon met Harald en 2 dames waarvan ik me de naam eigenlijk niet meer kan herinneren... Sorry, maar 't waren wel plezante meiden!

Kan niet zo heel veel over deze canyon vertellen. Heb hem zelf vorig jaar ook al eens gedaan samen met PhiL, Leen en Tine. Het blijft echter wel een mooie canyon om te doen!

Helemaal op het einde ligt er zelfs een autowrak in de canyon, ik ...

Eerste canyon van deze vakantie!

Samen met Maarten, Ludo en nog enkelen zetten we de vakantie in met deze canyon.
Enkele donderslagen en enkele druppeltjes doen slecht weer vermoeden, maar uiteindelijk zet het slechte weer zich niet door.
Wij hebben geluk... Ook voor de rest van de week ...

... in old villages, yachts and Lance and I eating and drinking, which is basically all we did (apart from a few art galleries) It is such a novelty these days to dress up and go out to dinner. I really don't know how the French women stay thin (I'm going to have to read that book) because the food is so fresh, yummy and huge serves, I tried just ordering salads but they were served the size of pizzas and consist of a few greens covered in mozzarella, olive oil ...

... and all over the world even. You can also get snacks, go ice skating on a temporary ice rink, and in the case with the one in Monaco, you could also go on some fair rides. I pretty much walked around the Marche for a little bit, looked at some of the crafts, ate some socca for lunch (socca is a thin, chick pea "bread" almost a cross between a pizza/crepe, really closer to a crepe but very good), watched the people ice skate in the rink and the children ...

... it was time to move on.   It was indeed partially sunny when we emerged from the restaurant. The church was right next-door, so we decided to pop in. It has a nice altarpiece, as all Catholic churches seem to, but the walls were in need of refurbishment.
