... you kind folk. Merci beaucoup! So much so, I decided to turn down the offer of an elelphant just this afternoon even though I had been reliably informed they have a history of helping people cross the Alps.
I'll close now as it's going to be an early night for me. I expect it will be a long, arduous day similar to the first day through the Pyrenees last year. Let's see if I can beat 11 hours this time.

... the mountain. From there we took a second cable car that took us up to the Aguille du Midi, at 3842m. The view from the cable car was not inspiring, it was pretty much a complete white out. But this is the longest single span cable car in the world. It's incredibly steep too, you arrive at the cable car station almost vertically. ... the room had a completely new aroma, that of strong cleaning products. That evening, inspired by the cleaners less than subtle hint that we smell bad, we found a nearby coin laundry. We were looking for a place for dinner and it just so happened to be near a Thai place. I'd been day dreaming of pad Thai for a while now, but we haven't come across any Thai places. We just finished the tour du Mont Blanc - 180km, 3 countries, 9 days! Also some sore feet by the end...
actually it was probably some of the nicest hiking we have ever done - stayed in some lovely hotels and mountain refuges, ate amazing food each day, good wine each night!
Think Andy was a bit de estates to be in Chamonix in summer rather than winter, but ...

Saint Maurice de Rotherens is a tiny old town in the foothills with the most stunning mountain backdrop. The European mist (smog?) hides the best of the view, but it's still wonderful. so where are the signs to the walking ...
