... soon after with a simple “Do you speak English?” and her simple “No” took care of further conversation. The night ended for me soon after, at around 3, as did the cruise. The only good thing on it, the fun that we had in the disco.
The next day, we arrived in Odyessa at around 2, and by the time we got off the boat, people pushing, crowding, no room, no space, no manners, we decided to use our superior bulk and girth to push off the boat. I was ready to ...
Odessa, Ukraine gabadorBut that is it! More than two weeks with people who i can say now i love and would like to see more often if only i could. Who knew that i would find SO good friends here! I've never been treated so well. Who knew that i would fall in love. This craziest thing we know. And it's not just a seaside story it's a fairytale, my own story with continuation.
Odessa, Ukraine ayeka... I were so happy! I bought a pearl ring set in silver for a little over 10 dollars and Hope bought a mother of pearl ring that looks just like Channel for a little more (after talking down the price a bit.. Bravo Hope!!) Then we all met back up with Kristen and we watched a movie on our laptop in our closet of a room. It was really nice to just relax and not run from one tourist atttaction to another one.
Odessa, Ukraine jmauxier... My train ride again was like 18 hours long and I didn't want to sleep the entire time and I also didn't want to just sit in my bed and do nothing so i decided to hunt for English speakers. After walking through about 4 wagon trains I found these two young guys having a cigarette and a beer in the smoking area. Said hello and asked if they spoke English. Well to make a long story short within 10 minutes they convinced me to go to this hard-core metal fest they ...
Odessa, Ukraine dylanboyle... So, what else could we do? I suppose we should be happy and relieved that we did finally get on the boat. (And that we didn't have to sleep on the filthy hard floor this time.) And a relaxing journey it was. Nothing like eating, sleeping & reading for 24 hours in pure comfort! Our lunch companions were a nice Moldovian family (Samer, his wife Irina and their two children) who were just coming back (overland in their 4wd) from ...
Odessa, Ukraine laurantim... I was in for quite a surprise when I arrived. The ticketing hall has about 10 counters across it, the majority of which had only a few people lined up behind them. Counter number one, however, had a line stretching more than halfway across the hall. Somehow I just knew that this was the line I was supposed to be in. Sure enough, when I asked the Russian guy at the end of the line, he immediately confirmed that it was the one queue for the advance tickets ...
Odessa, Ukraine xeriusYesterday we were in Odessa, Ukraine. Good news is I was able to get off the ship! I just went for a walk around the main part of town. To get there from the terminal you have to walk up these stairs (I took a picture of them), it was definately by workout of the day! There were a few nice stores, everything was reasonably priced. I was actually on a mission to find pantyhose but do you think I could? Of course not. I'll have to try in Istanbul in a few ...
Odessa, Ukraine sunnygurl... a seige of my own, so it will be nice to have the lay of the land. Around 11 with no break in the skies, I found my way to the Museum of Western and Oriental Art, housed in a grand old 19th century mansion, complete with winding marble staircase and a profusion of roccoco embellishments everywhere. The paint, however, was flaking off the ceilings and walls. Three flights up I wandered around the galleries for awhile. An ecclectic ...
Odessa, Ukraine peyton... cities of that time were (and a navigational plus for me), it's first governor was the Duc de Richelieu, an aristocrat running away from the French Revolution and landing on his feet. His statue stands at the top of the Potemkin steps. He's improbably dressed for a toga party. To his left, facing the sea, is the house built for Odessa's third governor, Voronstov, whose lot it was to receive the exiled poet, Alexandyr Pushkin, who had fallen into ...
Odessa, Ukraine peyton... from hell)...the eventual result was that I boarded a bus bound for Odessa without any proof of payment (the money paid went straight into the ticket lady's pocket--hence the big metal toothed smile on her part!). Considering that my travel via bus included two seats shared by myself and a family of 4 (spilling onto and around me)...hmm...maybe I should have accepted the first "NO" and found a different mode of transport! As for tomatoes...what can I say ...
