Bade farewell to the Resurgence today and made it to Picton in time to catch the 1:15 PM ferry instead of the 2:20 PM we'd booked. Inter Islander rated our crossing as "moderate". We left one rental car on the South Island and picked up another in Wellington. It was pretty quiet downtown except for a 2 night rock concert featuring Alice Cooper, Ozzie Osborne etc. We took the cable car for the view and enjoyed a pub meal.
Wellington, New Zealand 9livesWe stopped at Opunake Beach and Cape Egmount Lighthouse on the way to Wellington. The hotel was a little disappointing as we were told there would be no room service, no mini bar and the restaurant is closed. This equals no Christmas dinner and Wellington was also closed. It was really weird walking around New Zealand's capital city and it was totally deserted! it was as if the end of the world had come and we were the only two people in the world! We ended up having a Kebab in a bun with chi...
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand adventuretimeOur tour has finally made it to Wellington after stops in |Waitoma to see the glowormcaves, Roturua and Lake Taupo. Lake Taupo was by far my favorite; small town with style and an incredible lake, along with warm weather and sunny days. The most exciting part of Lake Taupo, and probably why I love it so much, is because it is where I went sky diving----yes I said sky diving. Went up to 15000 feet and jumped out of a plane, free falling for a minute. Something I NEVER thought I would ever do, ...
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand drewmarie Hey everyone,
A quick update to let everyone know I'm alive....! Sorry I've been out of touch.
Just arrived in Wellington yesterday, after tons of driving and a ferry! Wellington is mostly cloudy, rainy, and windy...but it's a nice looking city overall. Lots of homes in the hills. Did some ATV driving through the rainforest this morning, which was amazing! It was pretty hard core though, going through massive mud puddles and rivers and such.
The South Island was absolut...

... popular in the city considering the typically high prices of groceries.

There was a santa parade today right outside our apartment door. We didn't really have any clue what was going on having a santa parade so early in the holiday season, but Danny, Mari and I went to go check it out anyway. It was definitely no Holidazzle parade, but was really interesting because we got to see some of the members of the All ...
Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand fierce4nzMay 17, 2009 We leave National Park village this morning and leave Emma behind as well. Our alliance is at its weakest. The numbers are dwindling and its becoming obvious that the winter season is going to attract less visitors. The road to Wellington is nothing special and is basically and express trip to arrive there in the afternoon. So not much to see here in this entry I'm afraid. Wellington itself looks ...
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand codownsean... whole sleugh of Irish and English dudes h**e. He knew ev**yone in the hostel and could easilly swing free drinks and food from BLEND (the hostel's bar/place of free dinn**) since he was friends with the cooks and bartend**s. His life looks fun, though he does admit that it mostly boils down to working for **** money at a bar (no tips in NZ) and partying. Then th**e w**e two stunning swedish girls. They w**e the type of girls who know exactly how ...
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand leevilporkchopToday we made it up on time! We were out to the Bird Sanctuary in the morning. We took Devon in his pram (stroller) and April packed us a lunch. We didn't see too many birds at first, but had fun following Devon around the duck pond at lunch. We did see some gecko lizards, and a ton of ferns opening up their fronds (which is a very famous image around New Zealand.) As the day wore on we saw more and more birds too. It was ...
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand rebshark... experience". We were met by Uncle Boys, a Maori, who welcomed us to his home. After dinner we participated in a traditional Maori challenge (quite intimidating) and greeting. The men then learned the "Haka" (the warrior challenge dance) and the women leaned the "Poi" (designed to help keep your wrists flexible to throw weapons). It was a lot of fun !! We all slept in the "performance room" on mattresses which we placed on the floor. (there was bedding too ...
Wellington, North Island, New Zealand mshulist... picture 20 college students running around grunting and yelling (or in my case screaming and laughing), and tackling one another. It was like a mobile dog-pile or the "beehive," characteristic of 5-year olds' soccer games. Though the carnage was quite extensive with at least seven injuries, it also resulted in a group team-bonding experience that only knocking someone flat can create. It's amazing what a little competition will bring out in people. :)
