Tom and Sue took the day to zip to Bilbao (1:45 south of Biarritz) to see the famous Guggenhiem Museum. Wow, what a building!! The exhibits pale in comparison, but still we enjoyed a solid 4 hours at the museum. Afterwards, we drove back to San Sebastian where Sue introduced me to Alona Berri, the ...
Biarritz, Aquitaine, France kramertownI don't really need to tell you what we did do I? Take one part playground, one part beach, and one part sunset and you have a Kramer day in Biarritz.
... Dispite the language barriers they had a lovely time exploring the basque country side. What did we do? Why go to the beach, of course!!
... the kids slept. Tom did a little surfing and another nice sunset was enjoyed during dinner.
... we tried to get a lesson from our hostel but they said the instructor wasn´t available. I think he was hungover because I saw him moping around the hostel. We rented boards and head out to Playa Zuricola, tons of surfers were out and the waves look meanacing. Thank god the dude renting the boards told us where the ...
San Sebastián - Donostia, Basque, Spain and Canary Islands sofenjon... My hotel, Des Pyrenees, was on the main street and as I made my entrance I was met by some incredulous gazes from those in reception and the many diners in its posh restaurant. I should explain that because of the long holiday weekend I had experienced real problems finding somewhere to stay and was left with little alternative other than to pay extortionate prices to check into this expensive hotel for three nights. So in the face of the stares ...
Saint Jean Pied de Port, France jamie_pete... daily and I often recognize the sets. Goenkale is a great conversation topic with the locals, mainly with my friends in Hernani and my new grandma in Lasarte. She is my Basque Country grandma and we occasionally have a coffee and go for walks. She is great! (Don't worry, she does not replace you back in the states, but is a nice addition. LOVE YOU Grandma Dufurrena and Grandma Mac!!) Besides Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday nights... I just wing it ...
Lasarte, Basque, Spain duff32... It´s apparently theater week, so some nights have free plays performed.) Ours was...how shall I say this...very interpretive. We´ve narrowed it down to the story of a woman who was forced to conform as a girl and was perhaps sexually abused; she then lashed out at her peers, tried to regain her innocence, and finally broke free to accept herself and be happy with who she was. At least, that ...
San Sebastian, Spain and Canary Islands dlinsalata... an effort to take taxis out to downtown... I was feeling like going out, but not that far, so some of us checked with our tour guide Gary. Apparently the small city centre of Errenteria was only about a kilometer away, so a group of 8 of us decided to do that. THAT was an adventure... We had to walk in the dark and go through a traffic tunnel to get there, and several of the people in our group were pretty freaked out, but I kept remembering that Europe ...
San Sebastian, Spain eurorich... each of the four pillars at the base of the tower. The two with the largest lines were for the elevators all the way to the top and the two smaller, somewhat more manageable lines, were for climbing the stairs to the first and second levels and then taking the elevator to the top. The choice was clear, and more economical as well and we waited for only about half an hour and we were on our way up! The climb to the first and second levels were really not that bad, but ...
