Were you ever wondering what could make a bag of marshmellows worth an entire two dollars and fifty cents? In USD, nonetheless? Well, let me tell you: getting to roast one over flowing lava makes it money well spent.

Needless to say, this volcano hike was better than the last. The Volcan Pacaya is located about a 1.5 hour drive outside of Antigua. The hike to the top is only about two hours, and there´s even a ...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala kimandjohnEven bijpraten over alle belevenissen.

La Palma, Chalatenango, El Salvador micheleen... first large McChicken Meal. The experience only added to by the actual McDonald's building itself.

Like all buildings in Antigua, the façade is largely colonial looking, but inside, it was the McDonalds of the future.

The biggest, most awesome looking McDonalds we have ever seen with super-chilled ...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala cc_world_tour... there was a theater somewhere....we never found the theater, but we found a movie theater... turns out that the entrance is free but we have to consume something..drinks or food. It's a movies-bar... not bad! At that moment they were playing Dan in Real Life. Very nice concept.. it looks like a lounge bar, but with a huge screen at front.

I recommend a crepe place. It seems that it's owned by a french couple. They do it in front of you and have all the imaginable types. Very nice!
Pacaya, Escuintla, Guatemala jaribg... before it got too dark. I knew I was in trouble because I had difficulty keeping up with Aldo's pace on the trail. The walk was pure assent up the nearby mountain...I was expecting/hoping for a series of switchbacks on this trek. My spirit was broken about 1/3 of the way there when Aldo pointed out the peak of Pacaya which was still quite a distance away. For the sake of the entire group, I swallowed my pride and hired a ...
Pacaya, Western Highlands, Guatemala ndsquirrel... beginning of Semana Santa where religious ceremony takes place all week. Some towns are more outlandish than others. In Antigua we were astonished to find that they rise really early to make these incredible pictures in the road out of coloured sawdust with offerings of food and prayers. They look like carpets down the middle of the street. A procession begins and lasts for 11 hours. They make a float with a replica of Jesus carrying ...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala sainty1... park. Good to know for next time. It was pretty cold and very windy, the climb was tough in parts and took about an hour and a half before we saw the volcano. The guide Jose galled the group the "Pumas" and told us to stay close. The guide book mentions that there have been many problems in the past with bandits stealing raping and murdering people on the walk. A nice thought but also why a guide was needed. The ...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala salsitaOkay, even though I've way overshot my decided date to get a proper blog entry done, it's better late than never (mantra of last semester?). (....And once again, I didn't finish this entry. I'm going to complete it right now.) Honestly, I have no idea where to begin. There's just so much to say. My expectations for and preconceptions about Guatemala, I quickly learned, were largely incorrect. Guatemala's a much different place than the place I'd had in my mind. This could be ...
Antigua, Jocotenango, and San Felipe, Western Highlands, Guatemala jaynichvolodovToday we took a four hour drive to a place called Esquipulas, home to the Basilica de Esquipulas where many people come to pay respects to El Senor de Esquipulas. It was worth the drive because the church is absolutely amazing. People come to this church and light candles in hopes that their prayers will be answered. From the ...
