      ... funny to watch. On the return to town we come across a local fisherman who's engine has broken, he was paddling back within one oar. We tow him back to his home in the stilt village. It would have taken him several hours if he had to row back. Then a quick ride through the village, seeing the schools, fire station and polis station. There stilt village looks quite organised, with numbered jetty's, all have power connected, many have cable to etc. ...

      We are being picked up at 8am for an adventure into the Ulu Temburong Forrest. A coffee and a quick bite to eat and we are off. Picked up a young couple from England and head off on the 30 odd minute drive to meet the boat that will take us up the river. The boat is like a traditional long boat but with an outboard motor.       Most people in Brunei used to live in water villages -- collections of houses built on stilts over rivers or lakes. In fact, in the early 1900s over half the population of Brunei lived in water villages, and many still choose to even though the government is trying to discourage this.
