Consuming What? In Taiwan

... shelter we noticed that immediately with the flick of a switch the hundreds of scooter drivers were sporting the latest version of Hefty garbage poncho, well not exactly but it was amazing. I think some of them slipped them on while running a red light and honking at the perpendicular traveling traffic. I have never seen something so normal, smooth and just as taking a breath they had all transformed into storm battling ...

Driver's Test

... that I am not used to, and also a variety of painted instructions on the pavement. In addition, a lot of the questions were poorly translated which often made multiple choice options either sound as though they were all correct, or all incorrect. Only two people of our group of eight passed their test that day. A number of them returned the following week and about 5 of our 8 passed (I was unable to return the following week due to prior ...

Beach Day!

... building, and even a repelling exercise from the same five story tower. What made this high ropes course a refreshing change of pace from any course in the states was that it was not a "team building" exercise that we all endured on the occasional cheesy 8th grade field trip to a local campground. However, what it turned out to be was a lot of sweat, numerous prayers for my personal safety, and the realization that the Taiwanese government ...

... last week regarding how the government failed to adequately prepare its people and find shelter for the elderly and homeless. Of course, all over the news last night were stories of police helping the homeless and elderly to safety before the storm hit. I feel that there will be a significant decrease in damage when it passes over us. Additionally, the typhoons are at their strongest when they hit the eastern side of the island. Thankfully ...

... even visit a beautiful temple that was built behind the state and see individuals worshiping. After exploring the mountain top area, we then walked to a small restaurant that one of our guidebooks said was pretty good and served some of the Changhua's well known "cat-mouse noodles." These noodles are not anything different or out of the ordinary other than the fact that they are homemade and served with a sausage link. The name comes from the fact that the noodle's ...

The Very "First" Day of School

... my hometown, my family, my friends, and my interests outside of the classroom. I then had my students complete a sheet of their own that was designed in a similar fashion to help them introduce themselves to me. They were really intrigued by my photographs and had many things to say. Their eyes were huge when I told them how much snow we received in Wisconsin last year. Shortly after we completed this activity, we took a spelling and phonics ...

Daking Hiking Trail

... inspiration for me to keep going, I don't know what was... grandparents briskly walking up a mountain while I'm sweating and gasping). However, despite the complaining that was occurring, the view from the top was absolutely spectacular and was well worth the effort. When we got to the bottom of the mountain (I was VERY careful so I would not crack my ankle again), we decided to skip the hot springs because it was too hot out. So, we mounted ...

Travel through Taiwan

Gruss Ralf P.S. Hatte einige Zeit keinen Internet Zugang, muss es jetzt in Taipei nachholen:-)

... was surrounded by walking trails and fountains and streams and other nice scenery. Also at the top of this mountain were several decommissioned war planes which had been turned into tourist exhibits. Also, while we were there, there was an earthquake that measured 7.1 on the Richter scale at its source, but where we were, it measured only 4. Still, it was pretty intense. We were inside at the house and everything started shaking and rattling ...
