... amount of respect for food and eating. I've definitely sensed some eye rolling/sighing/tutting at the undue haste with which we approach our meals. Chris has even caused a mild panic several times by getting impatient and doing the unthinkable and going up to the counter to pay!

Just as an aside, the roads here are great, but each time you get onto the A8 highway, a machine goes ching-ching and you have to pay. If only it were so easy in Johannesburg! Fortunately, my Fiat Punto is only using 4.8l/100kms, mountains and all - can you believe that? - so petrol cost is much cheaper than I expected.

... through the whole trip to Villefranche. At home, the boys were busy making paper airplanes and watching videos. Once we were out and about, we took them to the playgrounds in old town and to the carousel. Kris quickly figured out that he could get the boys to behave in any situation in exchange for 'carousel points'. They were great fun to have around. ... train bound for Paris only to discover people sitting in our seats! Typical was our Australian response; a shrug of the shoulders and an "Oh well they must have double booked us, we'll just sit somewhere else."
