... some ever since my mom warned us when we were little. We'd cross into Mexico from Arizona and weren't allowed to touch anything until we washed our hands back in America because according to her the money there was filthy. Yes, now I have seen today exactly why we did things that we did back then. I've noticed that a lot of Central American women walk around with a Fort Knox jiggling right there in between their titties so be warned. I don't wish to find ...

Hot Dogs Roasting On An Open Volcano

... of them were giving him the eye and started to panic that we were in a gay bar. So, between that and the horrible stale-urine scented smoke they kept blowing onto the dance floor despite the fact no one was dancing, we left. After grabbing a snack and a game of rock paper scissors to decide whether to go back or not, we for some reason went back. After grabbing one more Gallo, we remembered why we had left in the first place and went home.
<br ...

... but they were obviously so hungry that they were probably pushing past their pain barriers to follow us to get some nibbles. I have to say that once again I fed the dogs.

By the time we were ready to leave it was getting dark and we were quite grateful we had thought to bring torches with us. The sight of the lava glowing in the dark as it moved down the mountain was so beautiful and I felt that it was totally worth the $10 we had paid to experience this. We ...

Trying to get to chichi!

... I decided to just pay the extra $50 for him to give me a ride directo to Chichi. Turns out, the ride was quite nice and I heard all about his old novia gringita, and his travels here and there. Nice guy. I took some photos, chatted, shared peanuts and other random food provided by my Mom for the journey (haha). A quick guided tour of Antigua, and 2 or so hours driving, and we were in Chichi...
Volcano trek from colonial Antigua

... hands down because the rocks are sharp as glass - I have a bit of a battle scar from a slide I took on the descent). But all 100% worth it at the top, where we picked our way across cold lava to where the new, red-hot lava flowed a few feet from our feet. Awesome. Then slithering down at sunset, back to the jungle, from where we could see the lava flow glowing red in the dusk all the way down the mountain. We got back for a late dinner then ...

Guatemala Hospìtality

... around all day - to the market, churches, etc. Our lunch consisted of chicken, rice, beets, and tortillas for about $2. We all tried a typical Guatemalan drink called Mechelada which is beer and bloody mary mix from what I could tell and I was not a fan. Our second day in Antigua we made our way to Volcano Pacaya at 6 am. It was an hour hike to the lava. The altitude wasn´t bad at all so the hike was pretty easy ...

Antigua

February 19-27: Antigua, Guatemala

... our hostel). Might go look at some of the museums with lower entrance fees. (Feb. 24) Walked to a little town called Jocotenango with Joel and Andrea. There wasn't much to see except for one central cathedral. We then decided to move on to a town we'd read about called San Antonio but apparently there are lots of places called San Antonio so no one knew how to tell us the way there. We instead hopped on a bus to a town called Pastores which only consisted of custom ...
