Ribeauville where fish are vegetables.

... asked for the salad and pommes sauted being offered with other dishes, hence were clearly available. This was point blank refused and we were informed that something from the menu had to be chosen? I asked what she could offer for a vegetarian – the woman, presumably the owner – suggested fish. Given that fish is not a vegetable, I find this very surprising and actually quite ignorant.

She then offered a plate of vegetables which incidentally was not on the ...

We went to the supermarket and got some food to take back to the hotel instead Ian had wanted this pasta dish that the german couple we met in sorrento had told us about so he got that and tried it. We also got the tickets for our train to Geneva tomorrow and emailed the Riad in Marrakesh.

Feels Like Home

... before going to Morroco. We went out to get me some cigarettes and noticed that the City game was on in a bar so we watched that and I drank so Rose which was cheap Ian was on beer and it was nearly 6 euro a pint the most expensive yet.

Ian wanted to go back to the room but I was enjoying the rose so we went just to another pub around the corner with some locals in who bought us shots and ended up getting drunk again, I was ...

Herbstmesse

... fairgrounds to check things out.

In Münsterplatz we rode the big wheel and got a nice view of the city lights reflecting on the Rhine. After our ride we just hung around a stall selling gluwein, drinking and chatting. Everywhere we went was crowded with people in good spirits and children full of sugar and excitement. Herbstmesse is a fun time in Basel!

Saying good-bye

... and are less adventurous. So as we were standing by the exit waiting for them to drive past, I heard my mom shout "Laura!". I turned around and there they were, going deeper into the parking garage instead of towards the exit. We all laughed and I joked about how it's already begun.

Finally they drove past us out the exit and we waved goodbye. I felt a bit sad the rest of the day. It was such a great visit with my parents and a wonderful road trip through Austria!

Around town

... the gift shop, we went to the pedestrian area and I searched for gnocchi. I did not find gnocchi on any menus but I did find an Alsatian restaurant, so we all had flammkuechen and a refreshing Swiss wheat beer (mom opted for the Swiss wine).

We didn't stay out too late because tomorrow my vacation starts and we are getting up somewhat early to begin our road trip across Austria, which I am really looking forward to!

The Black Forest

This was what I really came to Europe for. Freiburg was just the beginning of an awesome adventure for me. The mountains and the forest and the cake. We caught a cable car up to the top of the mountain and wandered in the snow. Got some great photos. We made Freiburg our base and toured a fair bit around the region. Spent a night here and there and came back to Freiburg for the festival. Took about two hundred photos in two hours one day; they had a ...

... hundreds of cars, mostly by Bugatti (he was an absolute fan of this particular brand). The mill went bankrupt in the 1970s; one section was turned into the car museum by the French government, and the rest has not been touched since. On arrival we discovered that a train museum (linked to this one) was also in existence, and that we could in fact buy a combined day ticket. The lady recommended two hours for each museum, and having arrived for the 10am opening, we ...

Thus, we just drove wherever it sounds peaceful: Ré island, Royan and its wonderful Zoo de la Palmyre, Bordeaux, the nice beaches of Lacanau, Arcachon and Biscarosse, many villages... I remember a funny story about this trip. One night, we were driving on the motorway. Late in the night, we decided to stop and sleep in closest field. We installed the tent and began to sleep. We could hear some cars quite closed ...
